OpenFashion Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as OpenFashion) is working on developing services and products that combine fashion with the latest technology, including generative AI. In March of this year, we officially released “Maison AI”, a generative AI utilization support tool specialized for the fashion industry. It is already being used by many companies and educational institutions mainly in the fashion industry, and we are promoting the introduction of generative AI in a wide range of ways, such as holding fashion contests and exhibitions that utilize generative AI.
OpenFashion recently held a seminar for internal members of Sotheby League Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Sotheby League Co., Ltd.) to deepen understanding of generative AI.
Background of the seminar
Even before this seminar was held, Sotheby League had been hearing questions from within the company, such as “I’m interested in using AI, but what should I be careful about?” In order to utilize it, we first need to know what generative AI can do, and not only the benefits, but also the risks that generative AI poses, which led us to hold a seminar by OpenFashion.
Seminar content
A total of approximately 110 people applied to participate both online and offline, and this seminar, which was a topic that received a lot of attention within the company, introduced a wide range of topics, from the basics of AI technology to examples of its use by other companies, and its current possibilities. . This was carried out with the aim of promoting understanding of generative AI within the company and serving as an important step toward practical application.

Participants listened to explanations about the history of generative AI and the impact it could have on the fashion industry, and in particular, in the case studies related to image and video generation AI, participants deepened their understanding of generative AI by examining the introduced services in real time. I could also see them deepening their knowledge even further.

During the question and answer session at the end of the seminar, we received some content that we hope will be useful in practice, such as, “I would like to know specific examples of organizing data, extracting only the necessary parts, and analyzing and reporting.” In response, Ueda introduced a specific example of data analysis using generative AI, saying, “AI can still make mistakes, so it is necessary to check the consistency of what is generated. Double check. At the same time, we also need a system for this.” He explained that while generative AI is rapidly evolving, humans will need to adapt as well, and at the same time, humans will need to take countermeasures for areas that cannot be covered by AI.

At OpenFashion, we want to continue leveraging the benefits of AI while preserving traditional techniques and practices in the fashion industry. By striking a good balance between these two, we aim to realize an ideal form where cutting-edge efficiency and timeless value coexist.
