The anime produced this time tells the story of how four place names in Mikkabi-cho, Hamana-ku, Hamamatsu City are derived from the legend of “slaying the Nue” that appears in The Tale of the Heike, and which still remain in the local area. Approximately 860 years ago during the Heian period, Emperor Nijo of the Kyoto Imperial Palace fell ill. It is said that when a monster bird called a Nue, which has the head of a monkey, the body of a raccoon dog, the limbs of a tiger, and the tail of a snake, makes a creepy cry, the illness becomes even more severe. There, Minamoto Yorimasa, a master archer, shoots an arrow at the flying Nue in an attempt to get rid of it. In addition, Hayata, a local wild boar and one of his retainers, killed him with a sword, and Emperor Nijo recovered from his illness. The body of the Nue that was cut was scattered into four parts, the place where the head fell was Nueshiro in Mikkabi-cho, the body was called Dosaki, and the tail was called Ona. It is said that the feather is called “Hanehira”, and it is still the name of a historical place in Mikkabi Town.

-You can experience the story of the Nue legend! How to eat Nue Manju- 1. Use a bow to cut the Nue into four pieces.
Legend has it that Minamoto no Yorimasa, a master archer, shoots his bow into the air in an attempt to exterminate the Nue, but the Nue was stubborn and still alive. In Mikkabicho, Hamana Ward, Hamamatsu City, there are traditional craftsmen who make bows. The materials used for the strings are recycled from leftover materials from the bow manufacturing process.
2. Use a sword toothpick to cut into 4 pieces and enjoy.
According to legend, the wild boar Hayata from Mikkabi, a retainer of Minamoto no Yorimasa, deals the final blow to the Nue. Nue’s body, which was dismembered into four pieces, fell into Lake Oku-Hamana, and the place names Nuedo, Ona, Dozaki, and Hahei still remain in Mikkabi Town.
