[Dr. Christopher Germer Profile]
A clinical psychologist who has been a leader in integrating the principles and practices of meditation into psychotherapy since the late 1970s. He was a long-time lecturer in the field of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, where he invited His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.
He is the author of “The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion,” two highly influential books in the field of clinical psychology in the United States.
“Mindfulness and Psychotherapy” and “Wisdom and Compassion in He is also the co-editor of “Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC(TM))” in 2010. Co-developed with Kristin Neff. It has grown into a program that has been taken by over 250,000 people around the world. MSC related books (”The Mindful
Self-Compassion Workbook”, “Teaching the Mindful Self-Compassion He co-authored two books with Neff (both translated and published by Seiwa Shoten). Currently, he spends most of his time giving lectures and workshops on mindfulness and self-compassion around the world. Lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, near Boston.

[Profile of Yasushi Kawano]

Born in Yokohama in 1980. Since 2011, he has been practicing Zen for three and a half years at the Kenchoji Temple Dojo. From the end of 2014, he became the chief priest of Rinkoji Temple of the Rinzai Zen Kenchoji School in Yokohama. Currently, he regularly holds zazen sessions along with his danmu. For business people, he is in charge of employee training for improving mental health through mindfulness at major domestic companies such as ITOCHU Corporation, DeNA, and Ebara Corporation. Furthermore, she continues to give lectures to a wide range of audiences, including doctors, nurses, care workers, school teachers, children raising children, and seniors. Author of numerous books, co-authors, and supervisors. In addition, he is supervising Japan’s first correspondence education course on mindfulness, “Mindfulness Practical Course” (Career College Japan). He also engages in activities to popularize mindfulness through media appearances such as NHK Radio’s “Radio Midnight Flight” and TBS Radio.

In this event, we will deepen the concept of self-compassion, which is often talked about in the context of personal healing. Guest Yasushi Kawano will comment on self-compassion from the perspective of Japanese Buddhism (Zen), and in the second half of the conversation, we will deepen the theme by focusing on the following two questions. * 1. How can practicing self-compassion help with global issues such as climate issues and world conflicts? *

We will also provide an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the practice of mindfulness and self-compassion through Q&A with participants.

Following this event, “Self-Compassion for Facing Shame” with MSC(TM) developer Dr. Chris Germer will be held on July 20, 2024, sponsored by Self-Compassion Circle, a general incorporated
association that is a cooperative partner. It will be held on the 27th and the 27th. In this workshop, you will explore the nature and causes of shame, and learn how to safely and effectively transform shame through the power of self-compassion. If you practice mindfulness or meditation, you’ll find some tips on how to incorporate it into your daily practice. Clinical psychologists can also learn basic skills in helping clients deal with shame.
