*Yamaguchi Odono area revitalization project for the future* *Last year’s activities
Tamura Buildings Co., Ltd. (head office: Yamaguchi City), together with public university corporation Yamaguchi Prefectural University (Yamaguchi City), is located in the center of Yamaguchi City. We have been working on the Odono District (*1) revitalization project since last year. Through the PBL project (problem-based learning), the aim is to create a share house for international students and a local exchange base where they can experience different cultures. We are the first Yamaguchi prefectural governor to obtain a real estate specified joint business (*2) permit.
Utilizing this unconventional law, we plan to conduct crowdfunding that will gain the sympathy of a wide range of citizens, and provide land and new housing with the aim of solving social issues and creating a sustainable town. The project was originally planned to utilize a vacant house, but it was decided to build a new house with safety considerations such as earthquake resistance in mind. On June 4th (Tuesday), we will conduct fieldwork in the Odono district, where we will get a first-hand feel of the atmosphere of the town
surrounding the location chosen for last year’s activities, and together with the students we will think about what kind of things we will start at the local exchange hub.
(*1) Odono district
The Odono district located in Yamaguchi City was built approximately 600 years ago during the Ouchi clan’s era in the style of Kyoto, and is dotted with historical buildings such as Rurikoji Temple and Yasaka Shrine, and is home to the Yamaguchi Gion Festival. A cultural city where Riya Ouchi lacquerware has been handed down. Approximately 200 Yoshino cherry trees are planted on both banks of Ichinosaka River, which is said to have been created by Mr. Ouchi to resemble Kyoto’s Kamo River, making it one of the prefecture’s most famous cherry blossom viewing spots. It is a tourist attraction where fireflies dance wildly in early summer. However, the area is currently facing many issues such as the aging of the population and the number of vacant houses.
(*2) “Real estate specified joint venture” is a business that solicits investment from investors in real estate with small investment amounts, conducts operations such as buying, selling, leasing, etc., and distributes the profits to investors. law
