Eel Pie Factory reaches 10 million visitors!

Founded in 1887, Shunkado Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, President and CEO: Takahiro Yamazaki) is a confectionery shop with roots in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, which manufactures and sells confectionery. To commemorate the arrival of 10 million visitors, we held the “Eel Pie Factory 10 Million Visitors Commemoration Ceremony” on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

In April 2021, we opened the complex facility “SWEETSBANK” in collaboration with Hamamatsu Iwata Shinkin Bank, and have taken on the challenge of making it a place that brings people and the community together.
Eel Pie Factory is based on the concept of “interacting with artisans” based on the desire to “reinvigorate the local area” and the belief that “we want to make people happy through sweets”, which we have cherished since our founding. Opened in April 2005, the facility now attracts over 700,000 visitors annually. At this ceremony, Hamamatsu City Mayor Yusuke Nakano also attended and gave a congratulatory speech for the development of the facility as an industrial tourism facility.

As souvenirs, Hamamatsu City ranked first in terms of shipments, a bouquet decorated with gerbera flowers representing Lake Hamana, and a “giant eel pie” made to commemorate the 10 millionth visit, weighing about 30 eel pies. , a stay ticket to Hotel Wellseason Hamanako at Lake Hamana Kanzanji Onsen, and an eel pie carrying case.
■Toward the 20th anniversary of Eel Pie Factory
In 2005, Eel Pie Factory opened as a factory tour facility with the theme of “interaction between customers and craftsmen”. Factory tours are commonplace now, but back then they were a pioneer in factory tours. In addition to guided tours, the factory, which also has a cafe, shop, and mobile sales vehicles, was featured as one of the model cases of successful industrial tourism facilities at the Industrial Tourism Promotion Expert Conference sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2010. Ta.
The goal for the first year was to attract 100,000 visitors per year, but the number of visitors increased to 420,000. In 2017, the number of visitors exceeded 700,000, a record high, due in part to the influence of the historical drama “Onna Castle Lord Naotora,” and the facility has grown to become one of Hamamatsu’s leading industrial tourism facilities.
In June 2024, the cumulative number of visitors will exceed 10 million, and the following year, 2025, will mark the 20th anniversary of its opening. With this 10 million visitor mark as our starting point, we will continue to deliver eel pie and smiles to many customers, and as Japan’s leading industrial tourism facility, we will continue to provide experiences that can only be found at Unagi Pie Factory. We will continue to contribute to the development of Hamamatsu City.
