The Hokuto City Akeno Sunflower Festival Executive Committee (Chairman: Toshikazu Akiyama) will hold a festival from July 20th (Saturday) to August 25th, 2020 in Akeno-cho, Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, which boasts one of the longest sunshine hours in Japan. The Hokuto City Akeno Sunflower Festival 2024, in which about 400,000 sunflowers will bloom in a panoramic view of Mt. Yatsugatake, the Southern Alps, and Mt. Fuji, will be sponsored by Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture (Mayor: Eiji Uemura) on Sunday. It will be held. At the venue, you can freely stroll through the 4-hectare sunflower field and enjoy the “Open Sky Market,” where restaurants and other stalls selling local specialties from the city are set up.
Furthermore, during the Hokuto City Akeno Sunflower Festival period, we will hold the “Hokuto Sun Festival Photo Contest 2024” again this year, collecting photos taken through Instagram, and everyone who visits will also enliven the venue. Winners will receive an assortment of gourmet food that allows them to fully enjoy Hokuto City.

The venue, Akeno-cho, Hokuto City, is an area with more than 2,500 hours of sunshine per year, compared to Japan’s average annual sunshine hours of approximately 2,000 hours. Taking advantage of this long sunshine hours, sunflower seeds are sown by local people. Approximately 400,000 flowers bloom. During the “Hokuto City Akeno Sunflower Festival 2024” period, the “Hokuto Sun Festival Photo Contest 2024” will be held, and photos taken at the venue will be solicited through Instagram. Winning works will be included in next year’s flyers and posters. Please submit your special photo from the sunflower field. ▶Application period: Saturday, July 20, 2020 to Sunday, August 25, 2020▶Eligibility: Anyone who has their own Instagram account (Professionals, amateurs, and those residing in the city or outside the city are welcome) )▶ How to apply ・Please follow Hokuto City’s official account “@hokuto_yamanashi” on your own Instagram account.
・Please take a photo inside the Hokuto City Akeno Sunflower Festival venue. Please tag the Hokuto City official account “@hokuto_yamanashi” in the photo you took, and add both the hashtags “#Hokuto Sunfes Photocon 2024” and “#Hokuto City” and post it on Instagram. *Posts without tags or hashtags will be invalid. *Please save the image data at the time of application. You can apply as many times as you like during the period. (The same work can only be submitted once.)
