Started recruiting supporters for “SusPla (Sustainable Plastics Initiative)” ~To expand the recycled plastics market through material recycling that contributes to quality improvement and stable supply~
……
SusPla (Sustainable Plastics Initiative) has been established by 13 people who have expressed their support from both the arterial and venous sides of plastic recycling, with the aim of expanding the recycled plastics market through material recycling that contributes to quality improvement and stable supply. I did. Therefore, in addition to the promoters, we have begun recruiting supporters (members) who can promote this activity together.

■Purpose of Establishment As an effective means to achieve carbon neutrality, the circular economy, which aims to create new business models by improving resource efficiency (decoupling), is attracting worldwide attention. . Particularly in Europe, environmental regulations in the product field are gradually being strengthened, such as the introduction of eco-design regulations, and in particular, the ELV regulations proposed in July 2023 will make up more than 25% of the plastic required for new car production. In Japan, the demand for recycled plastics is rapidly increasing, especially in the automobile-related industry. Among these, “material recycling,” which involves collecting used products and process scraps and reusing them as raw materials for products, contributes to the recycling of resources and to the control of GHG emissions, which cause global warming. This is expected to expand in terms of carbon neutrality. Currently, the material recycling rate for all plastic waste in Japan (approximately over 8 million tons) remains at about 20%, and of that, only about 500,000 tons is recycled domestically. In order to meet the strong demand for recycled plastics in the future, we will need to work together across arterial and venous business practices to address issues such as ensuring quality, stable supply, and clarifying traceability. All measures are required. The Sustainable Plastics Initiative (commonly known as SusPla) is a group of “Heart Industry Association” established by recycled plastics businesses that are suppliers. Based on the results of the “Recycled Plastic Resource Value Creation Project” (SPC Certification System*), which was promoted mainly by members (Expansion), we will create a forum for dialogue between both supply and demand, and through these activities, we will promote the regeneration of society as a whole. The company was established with the aim of expanding the use of plastics in products, thereby contributing to the development of Japan’s world-class manufacturing technology and products.
*SPC (Sustainable Plastics Certification) certification system: Material recycling of recycled plastic that can be used safely and stably by users in order to promote end-user understanding of recycled plastics, lead to appropriate evaluation by users of recycled plastics, and increase usage. A system in which a third party certifies the system. Preparations are underway with the aim of starting in earnest around the summer of 2024.

■SusPla’s aims and vision SusPla aims to double the use of recycled plastic through material recycling in Japan by 2030 through activities such as expanding SPC certification, creating a forum for dialogue where both arteries and veins gather, and considering the formulation of environmental impact indicators.
