– *Japan’s first female lawyer, Yoshiko Mibuchi and Niigata* The main character of the TV drama series “Tiger ni Tsubasa” is based on Yoshiko Mibuchi, who became one of Japan’s first female lawyers in 1940. At a time when there was a strong ethos of male superiority and female supremacy, such as women being denied the right to vote, she opened up an era as a pioneer in the legal profession. Ms. Mibuchi, who also became a judge, also served as the president of the Niigata Family Court from 1972 to 1973, becoming Japan’s first female court president in Niigata.
