Approximately 65% ​​of respondents are interested in the energy efficiency of their homes. Approximately 1% of respondents said they “live” or “plan to live/are considering living” in ZEH. More than 20% of those who intend to buy a home said they “don’t have any plans, but would like to live there in the future,” and more than 50% of those intending to buy a home*

An internet survey was conducted from May 1st to May 7th, 2024. We are asking about their interest in saving energy in their homes and their awareness of ZEH and mandatory energy saving compliance. We will inform you of the results of the investigation.

Furthermore, the rate is also high among those who want to buy a house in the future, at over 80%.
2.* Home energy saving equipment/energy generating equipment* In terms of energy-saving or energy-generating equipment in the house you currently live in (multiple answers allowed), 27.3% said it had “double or triple-glazed windows,” 21.8% said it used highly efficient lighting equipment, and 21.8% said it had “highly efficient lighting equipment.” “Energy-saving heating and cooling equipment/air conditioners” accounted for 20.0%.
  3.* ZEH awareness*
The awareness rate for ZEH (Net Zero Energy House) is over 30%, including those who “know about the content in detail” and “have heard of it to some extent.”
This is 60% of those who have purchased a home within the past five years, and just under 70% of those who intend to purchase.
  4.*ZEH living situation/intention*
0.9% of people live in ZEH (Net Zero Energy Houses).
0.9% are planning to live there or are considering it, and about 14% of those who want to buy a house within the next 1 to 2 years. “I have no plans, but I want to live here in the future” was 23.3%, or just over 50% of those intending to buy a home.
5.* Recognition of mandatory compliance with energy conservation standards for new buildings*
From April 2025, all new buildings will be required to comply with energy conservation standards.
The awareness rate for the mandatory compliance is just under 30%, including those who “know the details in detail” and “have heard about it to some extent.”
Among people who have purchased or want to purchase a home within the past 1-2 years, a high percentage of 15-16% said they “know in detail.”
6.* Emphasis on housing performance*
When choosing a future home, we asked what they would consider important in terms of housing performance (multiple answers allowed). 66.9% said “earthquake resistance and earthquake countermeasures” and 50% each said “insulation” and “ventilation”. Strong, “Brightness, Daylight” and “Security Prevention” are each in the 40% range. “Energy saving standards and energy saving performance” was 38.8%, which is slightly higher in Tohoku.
Among ZEH residents, the top three are “insulation,” “energy-saving standards, energy-saving performance,” and “earthquake resistance and earthquake countermeasures.”
