Demonstration results using high-voltage power generation equipment with storage batteries and AI market unit price prediction system *Report on the results of “FY2020 Renewable Energy Aggregation Demonstration Project”*

Japan Energy System Co., Ltd. (Head office: Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, Representative Director: Seiji Kurobuchi, hereinafter referred to as “JPN”) and RE100 Electric Power Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Seiji Kurobuchi, hereinafter referred to as “RE100 Electric Power”) has recently reported the demonstration results of the “FY2020 Renewable Energy Aggregation Demonstration Project” implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

In this demonstration, JPN served as the consortium leader, RE100 Electric Power participated as an aggregator, and a consortium of 10 other companies was formed to conduct the demonstration. This fiscal year, we will utilize the proven know-how from FY2020 at power plants with a total output of approximately 4,300kW in the Tokyo, Kansai, Shikoku, and Kyushu Electric Power areas, using high-voltage power generation equipment equipped with storage batteries and an AI market unit price prediction system. Verification was conducted on a total of eight items, including reducing imbalances and increasing profits from market transactions. Demonstration results focusing on profitability and development costs for specific commercialization*
*1* was obtained.

* -Consortium demonstration system-*
* -Main demonstration results-*
1. Common demonstration

The demonstration of “imbalance reduction” was achieved by reviewing the power generation forecasting model and adding actual data, which resulted in improved forecast accuracy compared to last year, and the results showed that the closer the forecast using the AI model to the actual supply and demand, the smaller the forecast error. Ta. Furthermore, by devising charging and discharging control when introducing storage batteries, it is expected that the imbalance reduction effect will increase. In addition, to demonstrate
“increasing profits from market transactions,” we used an AI market unit price prediction system to predict unit prices in three markets (JEPX spot market, early market, and supply and demand adjustment market Teriyaki 2). We conducted an analysis of FIP income when selecting sales destinations. Although we have confirmed that time shifting using storage batteries improves profitability, in the future it will be necessary to improve the accuracy of market price predictions and consider appropriate storage battery capacity.

2. Independent verification

The demonstration of “improving the profitability of low-voltage FIP” is aimed at verifying the equipment capacity and power generation required for supplying regulating power and evaluating the economic efficiency, with an eye to the possibility of utilizing low-voltage small-scale resources in the supply-demand adjustment market from FY2026. The we. In a demonstration aimed at “improving the
self-consignment rate,” we corrected the power generation forecast according to the sunshine hours and amount of sunlight, and were able to reduce imbalance and improve the self-consignment rate at the same time. In the future, we will aim to improve the level of correction by accumulating data for each power plant over the year and creating a database.
Finally, the demonstration of “increasing the renewable energy ratio through energy mix” will verify the economic efficiency of a renewable energy supply model that combines multiple power sources, in response to the increasing needs for energy decarbonization and local production for local consumption in local governments. Did. As a result, although the supply unit price was at an acceptable level, the development cost of digestion gas and small hydropower generation remained a major issue, so we will select equipment that can flexibly adjust output and consider the use of subsidies for future
commercialization. .

* -Future business outlook-*

JPN and RE100 Electric Power will use the knowledge gained through this demonstration to compare the economic efficiency of equipment combinations and build systems with an eye toward actual operation, such as automatic bidding tailored to each market. Furthermore, we will implement the system used in this demonstration into our services to build an economical power system that is compatible with any company size and to make renewable energy the main power source, and to optimize our customers’ power supply and demand and improve business stability. We will try to secure it.
