A dense absurdist drama woven by a talented cast of six men, brought to life by the powerful collaboration of Takuya Yokoyama and Misaki Setoyama.
Takuya Yokoyama is known for his plays that depict conflicts between people with different positions and circumstances through dialogue, and Misaki Setoyama is one of today’s most active playwrights and directors, active in a wide range of fields from public theaters to commercial theater. . “Caries” is a powerful combination of these two people. Ryuta Bando, Koen Kondo, Hironaga Tsuna, Bokuzo Masana, Shinya Niino, and Kazuyuki Aijima created this absurd drama about dentists gathered on a disaster-stricken island to identify bodies.
*After the main story ends, an after-talk with director Misaki Setoyama, cast Ryuta Bando, and Koen Kondo will also be broadcast! -Synopsis-
Konoshima used to be a small fishing village, a shrine called Zuikoin where the sunflowers bloom beautifully, and a modest hot spring by the sea, but 25 years ago, during resort development, strangely designed hotels and hot spring facilities were built. The situation has changed considerably, with the establishment of regular ferry services with the mainland.
Although this may not be directly related, Kono Island was attacked by cavities, which caused many parts of the island to cave in and swallow many people.
It is unclear who first called this ground subsidence-like phenomenon “caries,” but it creates holes in the ground, much like cavities slowly eroding away.
There are dentists gathered to help identify the victims. Neda (Shinya Niino), who moved to Kono Island and opened a dental clinic; Kamo (Kondo Koen), a very particular dentist who came from the mainland; and Kito (Ryuta Bando), who was taken care of by Kamo during clinical training. ) 3 people. Just as they were about to use dental treatment records to check the condition of the victim’s teeth, the second cavity appeared. Even morgues and evacuation centers will be submerged. There was also the risk of not knowing when the next “cavity attack” would occur, so an island-wide evacuation order was issued for Kono Island.
Dentists who choose to stay here believe their work is not yet finished. There, Sasakizaki (Kazuyuki Aijima), a government official, and Kenmochi (Tsuna Hironaga), a flamboyant dentist who can no longer stand still after hearing the news of his second cavity, are there. They come to Kono Island from the mainland.
Unless civil engineering workers come to dig up the earth and sand, there is nothing they can do right now. However, no matter how hard the workers waited, they never came. A man named Kurume (real name Bokuzo) appears, wearing a white coat suggestively. he says. “There are people mixed in here who shouldn’t be here.”
