Former Kobe Settlement Jugobankan

“Former Kobe Settlement Jugobankan” is the oldest remaining Ijinkan in Kobe and is also an important cultural property of the country. Jugobankan was completed around 1880 (Meiji 13),
It served as the U.S. consulate for about 10 years from 1891, and after that, after passing through several companies, it was owned by Nozawa Co., Ltd. in 1966.
It was used as the head office and was designated as a national important cultural property in 1989.
Although it was completely destroyed in the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, it was rebuilt with assistance from the national, prefectural, and city governments and continues to this day. The exterior of the building is a colonial style with a balcony on the south side of the second floor.
The atmosphere of a foreign trading post in the early Meiji period is conveyed in every detail, from the pillars to the decorations inside the store.
