SFTS is a viral infection transmitted by ticks.

In humans, the main symptoms are fever and gastrointestinal symptoms (anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain). It is thought that dogs and cats are almost the same as humans.
The mortality rate is high, reaching 6-30% in humans, 29% in dogs, and 60% in cats.
・Risk of humans being infected with SFTS virus from dogs and cats You can become infected with the SFTS virus if you come into direct contact with blood or other bodily fluids from an animal that is infected with the SFTS virus and exhibiting symptoms. In fact, cases have been reported in which humans were infected with the SFTS virus due to cat bites.

The number of reported cases in 2023 was 132. This is the highest number since notifications began in 2013.
