The JR West Japan Anshin Social Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation, was established in 2009 based on the reflection of the Fukuchiyama Line train accident, and carries out a variety of projects to help create a “safe and secure society”. I’m here.
Since 2019, the 10th anniversary of our establishment, we have been holding the “Essay Contest for Elementary and Junior High School Students on ‘Life'” every year. We hope to provide an opportunity for you to think about this.
The selection committee includes Mr. Shozo Kikuchi (education practice researcher), Mr. Kiyoshi Shigematsu (author), and Mr. Kikuko Tsumura (author), and we look forward to receiving your essays.
To date, this contest has received approximately 30,000 entries, and some winning entries have even been included in elementary school ethics textbooks.
Please take this opportunity to apply by writing an essay about your own thoughts and ideas on topics such as “life” that you come across through various opportunities and events in your daily life, or “life” that makes you think about the news that is reported every day. .

“Life” for you
We are looking for works from a wide range of perspectives, including “life” felt and thought about through familiar experiences, books, television, the Internet, etc., “life” felt through contact with nature, and the latest science and technology.

・The experience of having a younger brother or sister born, the experience of yourself or a family member becoming ill and being hospitalized, or the experience of losing a loved one
・I felt the joy of life through casual daily conversations with family and friends
・An episode that gave me the strength to live and the desire to try my best, etc.
~ “Life” felt and thought about through books, TV, the Internet, etc. ~ ・People who are doing their best while fighting against difficulties such as illness and major disasters
・The importance of life that posts on SNS make us think about ・People around the world living in difficult situations such as war, conflict, and poverty, etc.
~Various forms of “life”~
・”Life” felt through contact with nature, such as the sea and mountain views, the sun and stars in the night sky
・“Life” felt in the latest science and technology such as artificial intelligence and robots
2. Recruitment target
Elementary and junior high school students living or attending school in the two prefectures of the Kinki region (Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, Wakayama)
3. Recruitment period
Postmark valid from Monday, July 1, 2024 to Thursday, September 12, 2024 4. Application method
・Basically, applications are accepted on a school-by-school basis. ・If there are no school-based applications, you can apply as an individual. ・Please use manuscript paper (400 characters per sheet) and apply with the following number of sheets.
 Elementary school students 1st to 4th grade: 1 to 2 sheets
  Elementary school students 5th to 6th grade: 1 to 3 sheets Junior high school students: Approximately 2 to 4 pieces
5. Award
(1) Individual award: Winners will be presented with a certificate of commendation and a supplementary prize (book card).

6. Announcement of prize winners
The winners will be announced in early December 2024.
7. Awards ceremony
The event will be held in Osaka City on the afternoon of Sunday, January 26, 2025, for those who received the Excellence Award or above.
