https://www.kenko-tokina.co.jp/imaging/filter/soft/rear_prosofton.html Soft filters are essential for expressing the brightness and colors of the stars shining in the night sky in photos. Among the many soft filters available, Kenko’s “Pro Softon” has been used as a standard for starry sky photography. “Rear ProSofton” is a sheet-type soft filter that uses ProSofton processing on the film. This type is attached to the rear of the lens, and can be used even with
ultra-wide-angle lenses where a screw-in filter cannot be attached to the front of the lens. Since it is made of polyester, it can be cut with a cutter or scissors and attached to the rear filter holder of the lens, or attached to the back of the lens with double-sided tape. A set of 3 filters with different strengths of soft effects. Make constellations stand out by blurring bright stars
Even constellations that can be clearly seen with the naked eye appear too sharp with a digital camera, making it difficult to discern the brightness and color of the stars. If you use “Rear Prosofton”, bright stars will smear out, making the differences in brightness and color of the stars clearer and making constellations stand out.

Since it is a rear type, the stars are less likely to become oval. Rear Prosofton is a sheet type that is used on the rear of the lens, so it can be used even with ultra-wide-angle lenses where a screw-in filter cannot be attached to the front of the lens. Also, if you use a screw-in soft filter on a wide-angle lens, the bright stars around the screen will be stretched out radially, but with the rear prosoft filter, you won’t notice much of that radial stretch.

This set includes three types of soft filters with different strengths of soft effects. No.050 has a weak effect, No.100 has a medium effect, and No.150 has a strong effect. The longer the focal length of the lens, the greater the blur. Also, the darker the night sky, the stronger the soft effect will be. You can choose a soft filter with the desired effect depending on the lens and situation you use.
[Image 5: https://prtimes.jp/i/8859/1354/resize/d8859-1354-ef29a4a4ab32275ce1f2-0.jpg&s3=8859-1354-8c6ab92243329d4a3e79449ccd02071f-2000×875.jpg] No.050 has a soft effect as weak as the screw-in filter “PRO1D Pro Softon Clear”. Recommended when you don’t want to lose the sharpness of the scenery on the ground or when you want to print large images. The effect changes depending on the focal length of the lens, so if you use a standard lens focal length, this filter will produce a large softening effect.
No.100 is a standard soft effect equivalent to the screw-in filter “PRO1D ProSofton [A]”.
If you are shooting with an ultra-wide-angle lens or diagonal fisheye lens and the viewing size is small (for example, viewing on a smartphone or posting on SNS), a slightly stronger effect may be better.
No. 150 has a strong soft effect, which makes dark stars look bad, but bright stars are larger and the colors of the stars can be clearly seen, making it suitable for posting on SNS.
how to use
Cut with a cutter or scissors to match the shape of the rear end of the lens. If the lens is equipped with a rear filter holder, attach it to the holder. If your lens does not have a rear filter holder, please use
double-sided tape to attach it to the back of the lens.
*To prevent the soft filter from getting on the electrical contacts of the lens, please cut in a shape that avoids the contacts.
