Published in “World Ceramics Complete Works 4 Momoyama (Ichi)” P.157 No.189 (Shogakukan) [With book]

Bizen ware is a pottery developed in Inbe, Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, and is counted as one of the six oldest kilns in Japan. It began in the Kamakura period, and in the Muromachi period, the pioneer of wabi tea, Juko Murata, praised it for its “chilled and withered” beauty, and it came into the limelight as a tea pottery. This Bizen ware flower vase imitates the sho of gagaku music, and is a rare masterpiece, with the mouthpiece even exquisitely reproduced.

LOT.90 Raku Doyu “Black Flat Tea Bowl Kaneko”
H6.0×D14.0cm
Includes Ryōnsai’s book / Published in “Japanese Ceramics Volume 14: Rakudai Tamamizu-yaki, Ohi-yaki” No.48 (Chuokoronsha) [With book] Estimate: 5 million yen to 7 million yen
The third generation of the Raku family, Donyu [Keicho 4 – Meireki 2 (1599-1656)] is a master craftsman who is praised as the pinnacle of the Raku family. This work is a black Raku flat tea bowl made by Doyu. In the tea ceremony, a flat bowl is used in the summer, and a tube bowl is used in the winter, and most of the flat bowls are morning glory shaped. However, in the Raku family, a flat bowl with a shallow body called a badarai is made. This is because the first generation Chojiro’s horse cup-shaped black Raku flat tea bowl, which was made to reflect Rikyu’s aesthetic sense, has been inherited. In addition, the glaze is characterized by a glossy luster that is different from that of Chojiro and Tsuneyoshi II. The whole bowl is coated with a thick, thick glaze called “Makuyu”, which is unique to Doyu, and you can see the waves in the hem even if it is a flat bowl.
