Okawara Plateau is a tourist spot that represents Sanagawachi Village. Approximately 30,000 hydrangeas are planted on the plateau, and many tourists from inside and outside the prefecture come here for a month starting in early July. Okawara Plateau is said to be one of the most famous hill climb courses in western Japan. A hill climb is a race where riders ride mainly on road bikes on an uphill course and compete for the best time.
After last year’s pre-competition, we have decided to hold the first Sanagochi Okawara-kogen Hill Climb (SOHC) this year. In this competition, competitors use competitive bicycles (road bikes, etc.) to compete for the time needed to cover the road to Okawara Plateau. The event is not just for cycling participants, but is planned to be an event that also involves the local community, deepening
interactions between people, and creating a cycle of economy and people within and outside the local area.
