disabilities in the store – Aiming to be a store that is easy for everyone to use –
……
FamilyMart Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kensuke Hosomi; hereinafter referred to as FamilyMart) will conduct a training program for FamilyMart employees at the FamilyMart Yokohama Kaminoki-cho store (location: Kanagawa-ku, Yokohama-shi, Kanagawa prefecture) to deepen understanding of disabilities. We held a meeting to experience the perspective of customers with
disabilities. Through these initiatives, we will promote understanding of disabilities and strive to create stores that are easier for customers to use.
Initiatives aimed at making stores easy for everyone to use
Since 2020, FamilyMart has been holding an in-house event called “Disability Understanding and Employee Exchange Meeting” where employees can interact with employees with disabilities and experience their disabilities. So far, we have held a sale of vegetables harvested at an organic farm where employees with disabilities work, as well as trial events such as walking on Braille blocks using a wheelchair, sign language, and a white cane.
In order to increase the effectiveness of our efforts to create stores that are easy for everyone to use, we recently held a trial session for employees at FamilyMart stores.

・I was able to see the condition of the store and the perspective of people with disabilities from a perspective that I would not normally experience, and I thought that I would be able to utilize this experience not only in my work but also in my daily life.
・I was able to understand the difficulty of operating a wheelchair and the areas where people with disabilities feel anxious.
・I was able to actually experience using a wheelchair, and I noticed many inconveniences from a customer’s perspective.
・After actually experiencing being blind, I was able to realize how much anxiety there is about not being able to see anything or not being able to hear anything.
We aim to hold this event, “Experiencing the Perspective of Customers with Disabilities,” in various locations around the country in the future, and will utilize the information to increase understanding of disabilities and create stores that are easier for customers to use. -Reference materials-
