*258 out of 329 eligible wineries across Japan were awarded this year. New prizes too! *
Japan Winery Award(R)︎2024 Japanese wines from winning wineries A general incorporated association that carries out activities to popularize Japanese wine in Japan.
The Japan Winery Award Council (location: Sumida-ku, Tokyo,
Representative Director: Risaburo Endo, hereinafter referred to as the Japan Winery Award Council) is the 7th Japan Winery Award Association, which awards wine makers who produce excellent Japanese wine from all over the country. Award(R)︎2024” was held on Monday, June 10, 2023. Out of 329 eligible wineries across Japan, 258 were awarded the following awards: 5-star, 4-star, 3-star, and Concert wineries. In addition, the Special Jury Award will be selected by the special judge Naruto stable master (former Kotooshu Seki).
The “Naruto Master Award” and the “JAL Award”, which was newly established this year with the cooperation of Japan Airlines Co., Ltd., were also announced. This award is given by Japan Airlines to wineries selected by the Japan Winery Award Council with the expectation of future development, including from a tourism
perspective.

* [Reference] What is Japan Winery Award(R)︎? *
Every year, national and regional judges evaluate wineries that produce Japanese wine in Japan and meet certain standards set by the Japan Winery Award Council.
* [Examination method] *
Local and national judges will carefully select wineries worthy of recognition from the target wineries, and all judges will discuss and decide.
* [Subject to review]*
In principle, domestic wineries that have been established for at least five years are eligible for review. In 2023, 319 venues nationwide will be eligible.
*It is said that high-quality grapes for wine can be harvested at least three years after the grapes are planted, and at least five years after the planting, taking into account the aging period of the wine produced.
*Wineries with multiple brewing facilities under the same corporation are basically considered as one winery. Also, if they have the same capital but are separate corporations, each is basically considered an independent winery.
*Concerning contract brewing wineries, wineries with a production history of five years or more and producing at least 1,000 bottles (750ml equivalent) per year of the latest vintage will be subject to review.

・Are there any variations in quality depending on the style, such as red or white?
・Does it have an excellent balance of complexity and concentration, and is noble?
・Is there a sense of stability in quality regardless of the year of harvest? ・Can the terroir be expressed?
・Is it cost-effective?
-Does the wine have a consistent character?

Rather than evaluating the quality of individual brands through tasting, we seek an evaluation of the winery as a whole.
For this reason, judges must not only have excellent tasting ability and be familiar with wines from around the world, but also must, in principle, meet one of the following conditions for at least 10 years.
