East Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “East”) and Kagawa Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Kagawa Nissan”), which operate the Takamatsu City Yashima Mountain Exchange Center Facility “Yashimaru”, are WHILL Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “WHILL Company”). We are pleased to announce that we will start the rental service of WHILL, a short-distance mobility vehicle that does not require a license, from June 21, 2024. By introducing a means of transportation that can cover the steep slopes of Mt. Yashima, we have created an environment where even people who are concerned about their physical strength or long distance walking can feel free to take a walk with their families and enjoy the magnificent nature that Takamatsu City is proud of. As the population continues to age and become more diverse, 2024 marks the 90th anniversary of the designation of the Seto Inland Sea National Park, which includes Yashima, and as part of the SDGs, we will also contribute to the promotion of accessible tourism that allows everyone to enjoy traveling and going out. .
The entire area of Yashima is designated as the Setonaikai National Park and a natural monument, and many people visit to admire nature, and there are many attractions in the surrounding area, such as an observation deck, an aquarium, and historical sites related to the Genpei War. To do. The beauty of the Setouchi islands and the Takamatsu city area, which can be seen from the top of the mountain, is one of the attractions, but some routes are impassable by car and have steep slopes, especially for seniors who are concerned about their legs and physical strength. There was an issue that it was difficult to go there.
In order to solve these issues, Yamamar implemented a Will rental service for a limited time in November 2023. According to the questionnaire (Note 1), 87% of respondents answered, “It was easy to use even for the first time,” and approximately 90% said, “I want to visit the park again.”
Users have said, “My knee hurt so much, so it helped a lot,” and “My mom is more active than usual.” In addition, some people who want to rent the aircraft even when it’s time to leave.
There were about 5 to 10 groups each day.
The introduction of Will is a result of strong demand, and is expected to encourage visits from a wider range of generations and extend the length of stay. The adopted model is the scooter-shaped “WHILL”. Model
The handlebar provides a stable ride, and the ability to overcome 7.5 cm bumps and climb up to 10 degrees makes it possible to drive off-road, such as on slopes and uneven roads unique to mountaintops. People who don’t normally use wheelchairs but find it difficult to walk long distances, people who have rented a manual wheelchair at a destination, or families who push wheelchairs can use the wheelchair at their own pace without worrying about their physical strength or those around them.
