Pentel Co., Ltd. (Chuo-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter referred to as Pentel), a stationery and art supplies manufacturer that has been in business for 79 years, BnA Co., Ltd. (BNA, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter referred to as BnA), which operates an art hotel, and TokyoDex, an art agency that connects artists and businesses. Pentel has been a company that has fostered people’s imagination and creativity since its founding in 1946, shortly after the war, as a manufacturer of educational art supplies. The “Pentel Mural Rookies Project” is a collaboration between Pentel, BnA, which operates the art hotel “BnA_WALL” with a mural space in Nihonbashi, and TokyoDex, which has produced hundreds of murals both in Japan and overseas, to develop the Japanese mural art scene. It was started with the aim of not only promoting the event but also providing a place for artists who aim to be active in the world to gain experience in mural art. In addition to supporting production costs, art materials, and accommodation costs during production, YUSEI SAGAWA, a veteran artist of the “Rinpa Edan” who is active both domestically and
internationally, provides full support from creating rough drawings as a mentor to the actual production site. I will do it. In addition, as a Pentel ambassador, you will receive art supplies for one year and work together on Pentel’s art-related activities, such as continuing to create works using the art supplies provided by Pentel and providing feedback on product development.
In addition, when the work is completed, we plan to hold an unveiling art event that will bring together stores and artists who support this project and let you feel the charm of the Nihonbashi area, and we will update this information as it becomes available.
■YUSEI SAGAWA profile■
Born in 1986 in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture. Active mainly in Tokyo and Kanagawa. In his late teens, he was influenced by graffiti and street art and embarked on a path of expression.
He hones his skills through live painting with an emphasis on freestyle, and paints in an abstract style that combines Japanese, natural, and urban images. At the same time, he is also an art director and designer for commercial design, and has worked on many advertisements for major companies. He is also a member of the art group “Rinpa Edan” and is responsible for many artworks.
