Manabu Manjome has already published his first Naoki Prize-winning work. The new work “June no Buri Buri Giccho” is the second in the series.
*The latest Makime Bushi work depicting the interaction between the living and the dead set in Kyoto*
Bungeishunju Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kioicho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Nariyuki Iikubo) will release the book “June no Buri Buri Giccho” by Manabu Manjome on June 24th.
Manjome won the 170th Naoki Sanjugo Prize in January of this year for his book “August Gosho Ground,” which was published in August last year. This work is the first new publication in 10 months since then, the second in the series, and the first after receiving the award. * ◆Content introduction*
The main character of the title story is Takigawa, a high school teacher who teaches Japanese history at Osaka Jogakukan. Once a year, there is a joint research presentation between our sister schools Kyoto and Nara Jogakukan, and I went on a trip to Kyoto, this year’s venue, with my English teacher Sophie. We meet up with Tokichiro Okajima, a well-spoken teacher at Kyoto Jogakukan, and head out for a sightseeing tour of the city. That night, she gets extremely drunk at the izakaya “Utsusha” and has no memory of how she got back to the inn, and when she wakes up in a daze, she finds a dead body shot in a room called “Tenka.” The guest’s name is “Oda-sama.”
The other story is “Tsubone Riots in March”. Kiyo is a mysterious senior who lives in a female dormitory where boys are not allowed at the university. She lives in a room where she can watch Gozan’s Okuribi with a special seat, and it is rumored that she is in her 14th year or above, but why is Kiyo able to continue living in the dormitory without dropping out of university? For those who have read “August Imperial Palace Ground”, there are some pleasant discoveries here.
“March’s Bureau Noisy,” which is filled with a quiet aftertaste and emotion, and “June’s Buri Buri Giccho,” which is full of the chaotic and mysterious world of Makime, are works that are even more rewarding to read than the Naoki Award-winning works. Please enjoy once again the “miracle of Kyoto” where the living and the dead meet.

* ◆Author’s comment*
We took on the challenge of the biggest mystery in Japanese history, the Honnoji Incident.
Furthermore, it is also a serial secret room murder!
I wonder if history buffs and mystery buffs will get mad at this. This is a novel that is challenging in all directions.

The concept is that the living and the dead intersect in the city of Kyoto. It is paired with “August Imperial Palace Ground”,
In the two stories included in “June no Buri Buri Giccho”, there are a few more dead people,
It feels like being close to the living, next to them.
Enjoy the scent of the two cities of stillness and movement.
