Kagoshima National College of Technology (Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, Principal: Etsuko Ueda, hereinafter referred to as “Kagoshima National College of Technology”) collaborates with the Kirishima City Board of Education and Shigakukan University to offer lifelong learning courses.
New Life College Kirishima “Hayato Studies” first lecture was held on Saturday, June 8, 2020. In FY2020, “Regional informatization for the future”
The main theme of the event is “Thinking about it in daily life,” and the aim is to think about regional informationization together with citizens and prepare for the future.

In this course, we will cover 1. History of the Minami Nippon Shimbun 2. Role of living before a disaster (・Using the lessons of the Noto earthquake,・Recovery of the Sakurajima eruption,・Reawakening memories with anniversary coverage)
3. The history of Minami Nippon Shimbun, including its role in living before the war (・History of modern Japanese wars,・Recent government interpretation of Japan’s security policy,・“Military preparations” taking place in Kagoshima Prefecture) He also explained in detail the role of local media in disasters and wars.
In particular, we will discuss the role played before the disaster through coverage of the Noto earthquake and the Great Sakurajima eruption, as well as the role played before the war through examples of modern Japan’s war history, security policy, and military preparations in Kagoshima Prefecture, citing specific newspaper articles. There was an explanation. It shows how local media can contribute to local communities by applying the lessons of the past to the future, and in particular explains the role of the media during disasters and the importance of reporting on anniversaries. It was a good opportunity to deeply understand the informatization of the world and the role of the media.

Lecturer name: Fusako Kadota
Vice-chairman of Minami Nippon Shimbun Editorial Committee
Born in Kagoshima City. After graduating from university, he joined Minami Nippon Shimbun. Spent more than 30 years as a reporter. He started out in the culture department, where he was in charge of archeology and art articles. Responsible for reporting on retail industry and agriculture at the Economic Affairs Department. After serving in the Isa bureau, Tokyo branch press department, editorial committee, Kirishima general bureau, etc., he will be assigned to the editorial committee from April 2022. He mainly writes the front-page column Nanpu Roku and takes turns writing editorials.
