*About the artist and his works*
Maiko Kobayashi was born in Yokohama in 1977 and graduated from Musashino Art University Junior College, Department of Design, majoring in Spatial Design. After that, I learned life drawing and sketching at the Setsu Mode Seminar. In 2008, completed the master’s program in the Art Practice Course, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Northumbria University, UK. Currently, I have a production base in Tokyo, and am actively presenting at galleries and art fairs in Japan and abroad, including Europe, Asia, and Japan.
Maiko Kobayashi is an artist known for her works that deeply appeal to the hearts of viewers through her unique characters, nameless creatures, and has many fans both in Japan and abroad. A mysterious creature with both a lovely appearance and a melancholy expression, carefully painted with acrylic paint on a canvas with torn Japanese paper as a support. The screen evokes a strong psychological sympathy, one that feels close to the viewer’s feelings, accepts them, and embraces them. I am always amazed by the power that Kobayashi’s works have, which goes deeper than sentimentalism and reaches into the viewer’s latent psyche (deep sadness, loneliness, quiet anger).
This exhibition consists of nine works, mainly new ones. An opening reception will be held on the first day, July 5th (Friday) from 5pm, so please take this opportunity to come and see the world created by Maiko Kobayashi.

In early July, Maiko Kobayashi’s first collection of works “FORMS OF BEING – We will publish “Form of Existence”. To commemorate this occasion, we will be holding a talk event with Maiko Kobayashi, inviting Kenji Kudo, director of the Tagawa City Art Museum, who wrote about the collection.

Director of Tagawa City Art Museum. Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1967, graduated from Osaka Kyoiku University, majoring in art education, majoring in plastic arts. After working as a curator at the Tagawa City Art Museum from 1993 to 1998, he began working as a curator at the Aomori Museum of Art in 1998, when he was working in the opening preparation office, and will serve as the museum’s art planning department manager from 2022 to 2024. The main exhibitions are “Tateishi Okawa” (1994), “Yamamoto Sakubei Exhibition” (1996), “Robots and Art” (2010), “Bishoujo Art History” (2014), “Tomino “The World of Yoshiyuki” (2020), “Big Tiger Tateishi Exhibition” (2021), etc.
