As the importance of protecting and utilizing intellectual property in startups is increasing, there is a need to form a startup intellectual property ecosystem that promotes the use of intellectual property by startups and the support of startup supporters.
The Japan Patent Office operates the IP BASE, an intellectual property community portal site that aggregates the latest information on basic knowledge, support measures, and events related to intellectual property strategies that are essential for startups. This award is an intellectual property award that has been held since 2019 as part of this effort. In 2024, the sixth year of the award, we will be awarding the best startups and startup supporters who have been highly evaluated for their efforts in intellectual property, with the aim of spreading awareness of intellectual property among startups and promoting activities of the intellectual property community. ■Startup category is scheduled for pitch screening by finalists In 2024, in the startup category, those with high ratings on the application form at the time of entry will be selected as finalists, and a pitch review will be held at the award ceremony venue. Grand prize winners and other winners will be selected based on the evaluation of the application content and pitch (a short presentation while projecting slides).
In the Startup Supporter category, as in previous years, Grand Prix and other winners will be selected based on the content of
applications received.
This year as well, through a rigorous screening process by the selection committee, we will be awarding the best startups and startup supporters who have received high praise for their efforts related to intellectual property. Support system efforts.

■About IP BASE
In order to respond to the voices of startups such as “Intellectual property seems important, but I don’t know what to do first” and “I don’t know who to consult with”, the Japan Patent Office has created “The first site that startups look at”. We launched the IP BASE, an intellectual property community portal site, in December 2018 as a “site to connect with intellectual property experts.”
We collect the latest information on basic knowledge, support measures, events, etc. related to intellectual property strategies that are essential for startups, and provide a platform for
startup-related parties (startups, venture capital, accelerators, etc.) and intellectual property experts (patent attorneys, lawyers, etc.) We operate with the aim of becoming a “base” for the startup intellectual property community in which both parties participate. URL: https://ipbase.go.jp/
