Terahertz waves are in the frequency band between radio waves and light and are an unexplored area in industry, but they are attracting attention as next-generation 6G communication technology and new transmission imaging technology.
As a communication technology, high-capacity wireless communication that takes advantage of ultra-high frequencies, and as a transmission imaging technology, non-destructive testing and medical imaging that involve acquiring spectral information specific to substances are attracting attention as unique features. Until now, the development of practical light sources and detectors has not progressed sufficiently, and as a result, the industry has not grown significantly. However, since the beginning of 2022, practical terahertz wave components such as mW-class high-output light sources and highly sensitive image sensors have been developed, making industrial application a reality, and will definitely become a major industry in the near future. It is thought that it will develop.
In this seminar, we will start with the basics of terahertz waves, and then explain the basics of device technology, as well as the knowledge necessary to build a sensing and imaging system.
