In this renovation, large-scale flower beds will be installed in the passage spaces and exterior areas of the first floor of the Mitsubishi Building and Marunouchi 2-chome Building, which are located in front of Tokyo Station and border Marunouchi Nakadori, and will be decorated with seasonal plants each month. As a result, the function of Marunouchi Nakadori, which is a pedestrian space that combines the elements of relaxation, interaction, and culture as a green main street that symbolizes Marunouchi, will be expanded into both buildings, allowing Tokyo Station and Marunouchi Nakadori to become Provide continuity and increase the ease of movement around the town. At our company, we view Marunouchi Nakadori (a street that runs through Otemachi, Marunouchi, and Yurakucho from north to south) as an important presence that connects the buildings that are “dots” and sublimates them into “planes”, and we believe that they are a place of relaxation, interaction, and cultural attraction. We have been working on extending and expanding the pedestrian space function, which also has elements*. The Mitsubishi Building, located in front of Tokyo Station, is often the first building tourists enter in the Marunouchi area from the Tokyo Station area, including the sightseeing bus stop. Through this initiative, we will expand the adjacent Nakadori and renovate the building itself by creating a park-like approach space that will make you want to walk to Marunouchi Nakadori as a gateway for visitors from Japan and abroad. We aim to not only create more liveliness and circulation for the entire Marunouchi area.
With this renovation, the 1st floor passage space and exterior will be decorated with seasonal plants on a monthly basis, based on the concept of “bringing the seasons to the town, and the seasons to the building.” There is also a bench made of the same wood as the flower bed, which has been renovated as a relaxing space that will surprise visitors and provide a sense of relaxation for area workers. In this project, by collaborating with Sora Botanical Garden Co., Ltd. for the planting and Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei Co., Ltd. for the flowerbeds, we will construct a large-scale passageway that connects the exterior of the Mitsubishi Building to the Marunouchi 2-chome Building. Although the flowerbeds were installed, the existing buildings and equipment remained the same, and no demolition or disposal work was required, making it possible to regenerate and reuse the plants and flowerbeds.
Regarding planting, all plants are placed in pots to avoid putting stress on the plants and to make them easy to transport. In addition to the plants, the benches are made of cork, the flower beds are made of wood, and almost no metal fittings are used, so no industrial waste is generated when disposed of.
In addition, rather than discarding each month’s plants, we are taking on the challenge of creating value-added experiences that go beyond just creating liveliness and circulation, such as distributing each month’s plants to passers-by and workers, or returning them to the farm for curing and reuse. doing.

Because the building is used in a variety of ways, we designed the flower bed to be highly variable, allowing the size of the flower bed to be easily expanded, contracted, and transformed to make it easier to change the layout of the common areas. There is no need for large-scale construction when changing the size, just by adding a wooden frame. ■About the name “Marunouchi Bloomway”
The project name and the name of the main passage are “Marunouchi”, which is a combination of “Bloom”, where flowers and ideas suddenly bloom, and “Way”, which means road, and also a play on New York’s Broadway. Bloomway (Marunouchi Bloomway)”.
The logo has two meanings, both “B” and “W”, and has a rhythmic feel to it, expressing the hope that people passing by will enjoy the seasonal changes and fall in love with this road. It also serves as a heart motif.
