……
As we enter the VUCA era, where things are changing rapidly and are complex and uncertain, Otemon Gakuin Kindergarten (hereinafter referred to as “Kodomon Gakuin Kindergarten”), a certified nursery school cooperative nursery school (Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture, Director: Shinichi Tanaka), is working with all faculty and staff. Through this workshop, we formulated new childcare goals and childcare policies as well as “what kind of child we want to be,” and we have now published a concept book. In line with this, the official website has also been renewed.

At the nursery school, we believe that although the present age is uncertain and difficult to predict, there are also many opportunities, and we aim to raise children’s non-cognitive abilities* as children who have the ability to live their own lives. What I want my children to grow up to be is 1. The ability to take on challenges (I want to try it!), 2. The ability to think for myself (Why? Why? I want to do this!), 3. The ability to care for others (I want to do this!) We have compiled these five skills that we want to develop: 4. The ability to live with others (yay! We did it!), and 5. The ability to express (hey, hey, you know).

A total of four workshops will be held for four months from November 2023, with all 32 childcare teachers discussing a different theme each time. Divided into multiple teams, we set new childcare goals and childcare policies for the entire nursery school, focusing on themes such as what we want children to learn by the age of 0 to 2 years old, and what we want them to learn by the age of 3 to 5 years old. I compiled the information and created a concept book.
At the nursery school, we are also working on garden reform to create an environment where children can develop these skills. With the theme of “a garden where you can expand your relationships with friends, challenge yourself many times, and discover what you like,” we installed large wooden play equipment and artificial turf rockery in the garden in 2023. In the future, we will continue to improve the garden while observing how the children play.
We are also working to enhance childcare and education using ICT. We have created a system that allows parents and childcare teachers to share the documentation of each grade and class, as well as a portfolio that records each child’s upbringing, using an app. Furthermore, we are promoting the use of ICT, such as a school attendance management system and a school bus tracking system, to create a better environment not only in terms of hardware but also in terms of software.
