Microwave Factory Co., Ltd. (MWF, Headquarters: Shin-Yokohama, Kohoku-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director: Masahiko ) has announced a research and development proposal for the expansion of radio wave resources starting from 2020. We jointly proposed a proposal with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT, Chairman: Hideyuki Tokuda) for the research and development of narrow multi-beam forming technology that enables frequency sharing in direct communication with ground terminals. Adopted on June 14, 2016.
MWF will carry out research and development on the proposed theme, “antenna element reconfiguration technology,” over a three-year period.
Next-generation mobile communication systems (Beyond 5G/6G) are expected to expand communication areas to include land, sea, air, remote areas, and space. In particular, Japan’s environment has many mountains and is surrounded by the ocean, so there are many dead zones, and HAPS and Non-terrestrial networks (NTN) using GEO and LEO satellite communications are attracting attention.
In this research and development, we will launch a large number of small satellites equipped with antenna elements into orbit, control the position and attitude of these small satellites in space, and develop antenna technology to construct a large-diameter phased array antenna. The purpose is to establish. Through this, we hope to realize direct communication with ground terminals such as smartphones and other high-performance devices, contributing to the further
development of a new mobility society.
MWF has been developing high-gain lens antennas in the NTN field. In this research and development, we will effectively utilize the technology we have cultivated to date and develop antenna elements for constructing large-diameter phased array antennas, thereby realizing direct communication with the ground using multi-beams and We will continue to contribute to the effective use of radio wave resources, such as by improving usage efficiency.
