Since 2018, Sainokuni Saitama Arts Theater has been implementing the “Saitama Dance Laboratory” as a dance training project for the purpose of training young dancers and creating works. Starting this year, we will incorporate artistic director Kondo’s vision and start a new project called “Dance Redirection,” which will cultivate not only technique but also thinking ability and diverse approaches, transcending genres and questioning the future direction of dance. . We aim to foster the next generation of artists who reexamine dance from multiple perspectives and have the vision to “redirect” dance (in a new direction).
In August, we will hold a workshop as an “intensive session” with Pina Bausch Wuppertal Dance Company dancer Azusaki Seyama as the main instructor. In addition to Seyama, the 14-day workshop will include guest lecturers Akiko Kitamura, Ikuyo Kuroda, Asami Shimazaki, Seiji Tanaka, and Fumio Hamano. Together with instructors from a variety of backgrounds, you will experience the possibilities of physical expression from a variety of perspectives, face yourself, and create through not only hands-on practice, but also discussions and viewing archive footage of works performed in theaters. I will cultivate my strength.
In addition to the once-a-year workshop, we are always recruiting “Dance Redirection Registered Artists” who can experience physical expression through viewing works and observing rehearsals throughout the year. Since its opening, the theater has served as one of the most important dance centers in Japan, delivering outstanding works by choreographers, artists, and companies active at the forefront of both Japan and abroad. We provide various opportunities for artists and creators.
