Only this year you can see the collaboration between sparkling gems and minerals and Night ZOO!
Highlight 1. Transformed into a night version!
In the summer of 2024, the Natural History Museum will hold a special exhibition, “Fantasy Crystals☆Minerals.” This is an exhibit where you can see a wide variety of minerals, including a huge amethyst dome and a heart-shaped crystal that is representative of Japan.
This special exhibition will be transformed into the “first” full-fledged night version exhibition only during this period! With an LED light lent to you at the entrance, you can walk freely through the dimly lit venue with minimal daytime illumination, and hold the light up to the minerals and gemstone crystals yourself.

By shining light on the crystal from various directions, we can expect to see educational effects that will lead to new discoveries, such as seeing a shine that is a little different from the steady daytime lighting, and how the shadows on the crystal surface change. will be done.

Incorporating the properties of “crystals” that are essential to minerals, in addition to the difference in lighting between “day” and “night”, you can further change the appearance by applying your own light, and the true face of minerals with a different taste. You can enjoy it.

In the “Fluorescent Minerals” corner, which serves as an
introduction to the exhibition hall, we display minerals that emit weak colored light (fluorescence) when exposed to ultraviolet light (black light) in a darkened environment.
The highlight is Hokkaido stone, which was registered by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) as a new mineral from Japan in 2023.
