“In Goura, where Okakura Tenshin (1863 – 1913) lived in his later years, there was a mountain forest along the coast that was difficult to access.
When we passed through the deep forest deep in the mountain, we found ourselves in a valley. I found the remains of rain-fed rice terraces that had become wetlands covered with reeds. It was like a secret rice terrace.
Then, while thinking about the continuous existence of nature and human activities over a long period of time, I decided to create a work of rice terraces in a valley hidden in the forest. I wandered through the forest that covered the valley, surveyed the vegetation, and decided to turn the entire forest that covered the remains of the terraced rice fields in the valley into a work space that became one with the plants. ”
