MUSIC is an exhibition with the theme of “Life and Music” that focuses on visual art, mainly record jackets. This exhibition will be held as the third in the series, following the previously held “City Pop” and “Jazz” exhibitions, and will focus on “rock,” particularly the seven years from 1978 to 1984, which was the “period of change in Western music and rock.” This era of rapid changes in the technology and media environment can be described as the “edgy era,” the most creative period in rock’s long history, with sounds, provocative graphics, and cutting-edge fashion.
This exhibition, with musician/music producer Akito Katayose as its curator, will take a fresh look at the visual expression of rock in this era. During the exhibition period, there will also be an exhibition of portraits of musicians by photographer Toshi Yajima and works depicting rock musicians by visual artist Mick Itaya. In addition, related goods such as vintage rock T-shirts, ukiyo-e prints of rock musicians, books such as analog records and disc guides will be on sale at the venue.
