Tiger Thermos Co., Ltd. (President: Yoshisato Kikuchi, Headquarters: Kadoma City, Osaka Prefecture), a world leader in thermal control technology, will open a new facility at Hatsushiba Gakuen Elementary School, Osaka Hatsushiba Gakuen Educational Corporation, on Thursday, July 4, 2024. We held a special visiting class for 89 fourth-grade elementary school students to learn about plastic waste reduction and SDGs, with the theme of the familiar “water bottle.”

This special on-site class is part of the “Tiger Thermos My Bottle SDGs Project for School”, which was launched by Tiger Thermos in 2013. As part of the “Hatsushiba Ritsumeikan Junior High School x In-School SDGs” project, the first project, “Hatsushiba Ritsumeikan Junior High School We are working on the “Keio Junior High School x Support Project” and the third project, “Osaka Shoin Women’s University x Plastic Waste Reduction.”

This time, as the fourth installment, we held a class for elementary school students for the first time in this project, with the hope that they would be able to experience “My Bottle’s Sustainable Action” earlier in their lives and increase their options. Together with the children who are the future of Hatsushiba Gakuen Elementary School, we learned about the impact of plastic on the natural environment and sustainable actions that can be taken with your own bottle.

In the class, students will be taught from various angles, such as thinking about common plastic products, introducing collection boxes for stainless steel bottles, which are still relatively unknown, and working on actually touching a water bottle to draw your ideal bottle. Students who took the class thought about the natural environment and their own water bottles from the perspective of fourth graders, and said, “It was fun to be able to draw a picture of my favorite water bottle that I would like to use,” and “It was fun to draw a picture of my favorite water bottle that I would like to use.” I learned a lot because I didn’t know there was a water bottle that I used when I was a baby,” and “I’m happy to be able to recycle the water bottle I used when I was a baby.”

Tiger Thermos will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by creating an opportunity for students to think about the environment together with their school and students through the familiar “my own bottle.”

July 4, 2024, Vacuum Insulated Bottle
The person in charge of circular economy promotion held a class on “My Bottle Sustainable Action” to 89 fourth graders at Hatsushiba Gakuen Elementary School. Since the theme was the “water bottle” that we always have around us, we heard comments such as “Maybe it’s the same as the one we have at home!” and “I’d like to use a pink water bottle as my own if I had one of these.” The children also took notes and listened intently to the topic of “how heat is
transmitted” and the vacuum insulation structure of thermos flasks, which they were planning to learn in science class.

* -Course content-*
* 1. About promoting my own bottle to reduce plastic*

Based on the impact that plastic has on the natural environment, we introduced My Own Bottle as one of the environmental conservation initiatives that children can put into practice in their daily lives. We also explained vacuum insulation technology, which is one of our core competencies. Using an actual bottle as a sample, we explained the structure of the three elements of heat transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation, and the mechanism for keeping warm and cold in a vacuum insulated bottle.
* 2. Regarding collection of used stainless steel bottles *

We have collection boxes for used stainless steel bottles in over 400 locations nationwide. By collecting bottles that are clearly made of stainless steel in bulk, we will be able to increase recycling efficiency and secure highly pure stainless steel raw materials. We brought an actual “used stainless steel bottle collection box” to school, and during the class, 28 bottles were collected in the collection box.

*Introducing Tiger Vacuum Insulated Bottle*
*Four promises of Tiger vacuum insulated bottle (stainless steel bottle)*

In order to realize health, human rights, and environmental
considerations, the Tiger vacuum insulated bottle has four
commitments: “No conflict minerals,” “No fluorine coating,” “No production,” and “No plastic waste.” I am.

Reference materials | Recycling model built by Tiger Thermos

Stainless steel bottles that are no longer needed at home are collected at local schools and businesses and sent to a recycling specialist. We produce recycled stainless steel materials and recycled PP (polypropylene) resin products from the collected recycled raw materials.
We will build a resource recycling model in which recycled stainless steel materials will be reborn as new products and returned to our customers, and recycled resin products will be used at each of our production plants.

By recycling things rather than consuming or disposing of them, we aim to realize a circular economy that both reduces environmental impact and achieves sustainable economic growth. (Vacuum insulated bottles are not the only products made from recycled stainless steel.)
