*Tai Chi, mahjong, ballroom dancing, grandchild’s marriage search… “Miraculous photos” in the park by Chinese uncle “Shu Shu” and aunt “A Yi” | 7/20: DJ event, 8/3: Talk event & autograph session held! * SOMSOC is a creators unit and gallery operated by Kenbi Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Genken). GALLERY will be holding a solo exhibition titled “Park Tales” to commemorate the release of Beijing-born photographer Sun Yibing’s photo book from July 20th (Saturday) to July 8th. It will be held until Sunday, May 11th. This will be the first solo exhibition by Son Yibing to be held in Japan.

On the first day, July 20th (Saturday), we will hold a DJ event that anyone can enter to commemorate his first solo exhibition.
Additionally, on August 3rd (Saturday), a talk event and autograph session will be held between Mr. Sun Yibing and Mr. Shinobu Yoshii, a freelance writer living in Beijing.

* “Kouen Kitan” exhibition concept *
When we Japanese hear the word “park,” this is probably the image that comes to mind.
Swings and slides, young parents and children making their “park debut” and couples on dates.
Even though it’s the same park, China is completely different. The main characters of Chinese parks are Shushu and Ai. Shushu and Ai mean “uncle” and “aunt”.
Tai chi, badminton, and mahjong for health. Chinese parks are the venue for ballroom dances with blaring raunchy music, or even arranged marriage matches to find marriage partners for one’s grandchildren. In 1992, Deng Xiaoping’s “Southern Tour Peace” accelerated China’s reform and opening-up. A new system and ideas were opened up, and China achieved dramatic development. The generation that ushered in that era flocks to health equipment with exaggerated names like “Taiku Manpoki” in parks, forming a chaotic community.
Photographer Sun Yibing uses his lens to capture the energetic, passionate, optimistic, and chaotic daily lives of Shushu and Ai, creating art with formal beauty. I am elevating it into a work of art. This solo exhibition, coinciding with the publication of his photo book, brings together “miraculous photos” taken in the park. In China today, the classification of “E people” and “I people” is buzzing. A person with a sociable personality is an “E person”, and the opposite is an “I person”. The elderly people who gather in Beijing’s parks are truly “E-people.” While young people play games and watch videos at home, the park community of older people is outward-looking.
One of the roles of art is to “depict and show the future.”
The Beijing park photographed by Sun Yibing may be the future we should aspire to in Japan, where isolation from human communities and lonely deaths are rising issues.
picture? Don’t you like this kind of chaos?
Please enjoy this collection of moments that will make you want to see them again.
