Otemon Gakuin University (abbreviation: Oidai, Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture, President: Shindo)
Masahiro) The Faculty of Sociology will exhibit Yu Matsumoto’s work based on the case of a child and mother who took the witness stand for a certain incident at the Ibaraki City Gallery from July 12th to 17th, 2024. We will be holding an exhibition titled “Saraba Monster (Chasing Speculation)”.

Saraba monster (pursuit of speculation)

This exhibition is held as part of the Social and Cultural Design Course, where students learn techniques for designing society through the analysis of video works and the creation of theater, dance, and other forms of art. It was planned by Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Hana Sawada, who is in charge of the class, and students are involved in the exhibition, management, and public relations.

This time, we have invited Yu Matsumoto, an up-and-coming printmaker and artist who also works as a courtroom painter, to exhibit works created through his unique research and lithography techniques.

Mr. Matsumoto employs a unique production method that takes actual incidents as his subject matter and incorporates the information obtained through interviews at crime scenes into self-portraits and condenses them into a single print. “Saraba Monster (Chase of Speculation)” follows the testimony of the child and mother who took the witness stand as defendants in a case that Matsumoto actually attended as a court painter, and includes three prints and documents that reflect the incident into a self-portrait. will be exhibited.

Through interactions between Project Assistant Professor Sawada and author Yu Matsumoto, the students learned how to proceed with exhibition production, the knowledge and techniques necessary for an exhibition, and even participated in devising the title of the exhibition. Students will also be involved in venue preparation, exhibition work, and public relations activities to support
operations.
