Summer is here! Do you protect your lips from UV rays?
Umigame Co., Ltd. (Location: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, Representative: Yusuke Matsushita), which provides marketing DX services for dental clinics, conducted a survey on UV protection for lips in summer, and we would like to introduce the results.
……
This time, we conducted a survey asking men and women in their teens to 30s, “Do you protect your lips from UV rays?”
Summer is a fun season, but on the other hand, it is also a season where factors that can cause major damage to your skin increase. As the weather gets hotter, more and more people are taking measures to protect themselves from UV rays by applying sunscreen and using parasols.
And do you all take proper measures against UV rays? This time, we conducted a survey asking men and women in their teens to 30s, “Do you protect your lips from UV rays?”

According to the survey results, 27% of the people take UV protection for their lips, while 73% do not, indicating that many people do not take any precautions. By age, 25% of teenagers and 28% of those in their 20s and 30s said they took precautions against UV rays. Approximately 70% of people of all generations do not protect their lips from UV rays.
There are several possible reasons why many people do not protect their lips from UV rays. First, many people may think that wearing lipstick on a daily basis is enough. There is also a misconception that lip balms and lipsticks protect against UV rays. Also, even if you are careful about protecting your face and body from UV rays, some people may not be able to take care of their lips.
▼Why lips are more susceptible to UV rays Lips are more susceptible to UV rays than other skin areas. The reason for this is that the lips have less melanin pigment, so they have less protection from UV rays. Exposure to UV rays can dry out your lips and cause them to become chapped. It can also cause dullness and wrinkles.
▼Dry lips due to air conditioning In the summer, we often stay indoors with air conditioning, which can also cause dry lips. Air conditioning dries the air, so if your lips have a poor barrier function, they are more susceptible to dryness. If you don’t take precautions against dryness just because it’s summer, you’ll end up with chapped lips before you know it.
-How to care for your lips in summer- UV protection and moisturizing are important when caring for your lips.
▼Ultraviolet protection Choose lipstick or lipstick that has UV protection. However, some of these items can be drying, so it is best to treat them with lip balm before use. Especially if you have chapped lips or are prone to chapped lips, it is a good idea to choose a medicated lipstick that has an anti-inflammatory effect.
▼Moisturizing care In environments where lips tend to dry out, moisturizing care is essential. Apply lip balm frequently when you are indoors with air conditioning or when you go out to prevent your lips from drying out.
Lips are an area that is easily affected by ultraviolet rays and air conditioning. Based on the survey results, we found that many people were not taking any measures. To protect the health of your lips, take thorough measures against UV rays and moisturize your lips. These cares are especially important during the summer, so please
incorporate them into your daily routine.
