[USIMO] To prevent heat stroke in cows! NEW contact cooling sensation neck cooler with hybrid water retention specification will be released at Tajima Livestock Market on 7/10
Summer nationwide caravan of heat protection goods for cows underway ……
Otsuki Co., Ltd. (Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture, President and CEO: Shozo Otsuki, hereinafter referred to as “our company”), which handles USIMO, which develops goods for cows, is a company that works to prevent heat stroke in calves and reduce heat stress in parent cows before and after giving birth. We will be opening an exhibition booth of an effective contact cooling neck cooler for prevention at the Tajima Livestock Market (Yabu City, Hyogo Prefecture) on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. This eco-friendly and safe neck cooler does not require electricity, and can be used continuously for long periods of time by combining water retention with fiber and polymer. Use ice or well water to more effectively cool blood vessels in the neck and regulate the cow’s body temperature. We are currently holding a nationwide caravan so that you can try the product firsthand.

Last summer, we held the “USIMO National Caravan,” which opened at livestock markets across the country from Hokkaido to Okinawa. We spoke to many livestock farmers. It has been a year since then, and we have given shape to the voices of many people, and the Motto Cool HYBRID has been completed. To commemorate the release of new products, we will be holding a nationwide caravan this summer as well. You can actually touch USIMO products and check the quality. We would be happy if many livestock farmers would know about it.

In the summer of 2023, record-breaking heat waves hit the entire country of Japan, placing a heavy burden on livestock. Particularly serious damage was caused by heatstroke in cattle. According to an announcement by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, 1,234 cattle died from heatstroke nationwide between July 1 and August 31, 2023. This is more than double the number for the same period in 2022, showing that the effects of the intense heat on cattle were severe. The reason behind the spread of damage is the harsh
environment of record-breaking heat and high humidity. Although many farmers had taken measures against the heat, in many cases they were unable to prevent damage as the heat exceeded expectations.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is calling on farmers to take measures such as “thorough ventilation fans and shading measures in livestock barns, adequate hydration, moving cows that are sensitive to heat to cooler areas, and paying attention to their physical condition.” was.
However, these measures alone are not sufficient to prevent damage caused by intense heat. As even more severe heatwaves are expected in the future, more effective heat countermeasures will be needed. *We have also received comments from farmers in the field, such as “Calves are sensitive to heat and require special care,” and “The calves fell ill at the market during shipping and were unable to trade.”
In order to solve these problems, since 2020 we have been developing a product that uses a cooling sensation to cool the blood vessels in the neck and regulate the body temperature of cows.
In response to customer feedback such as “I want to save time and stay wet for a long time,” we launched Motto Cool HYBRID, which combines the inner cotton material sold last year with polymer to extend the water retention time.

In 2019, we launched the project “USIMO” to independently develop and sell cold weather goods for calves in response to requests from livestock farmers to whom we deliver work clothes.
So far, we have developed neck warmers with heating wires, heat storage mufflers, drip warmers, cold-weather coats made of
high-performance materials, and neck coolers that feel cool to the touch using water-retaining cotton and polymer.

Established in 1962 as a work clothes store. Currently, we operate a total of 16 directly managed stores in Hyogo and Kyoto. The USIMO project started with zero know-how on winter clothing for livestock, so we visit livestock farms from Hokkaido to Okinawa to constantly improve our products. We strive to create products that livestock farmers truly desire. As a company that turns farmers’ “nice-to-haves” into reality, we are steadily incorporating know-how regarding work clothes, and will continue to move forward this summer.
