Oku-Atsugawa “Nara-no-Sato Tamasui” has renovated its guest rooms and opened Mikagami Terrace to commemorate its 110th anniversary. *To commemorate the 110th anniversary of our founding, we plan to carry out renewals in several parts. *
Gyokusuikan, a limited company that has been operating inns in Izu since 1912 (location: 39-1 Naramoto, Higashiizu-cho, Kamo-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture, Representative Director: Ota)
Tomoyasu) will celebrate its 110th anniversary in 2024. To commemorate our 110th anniversary, we plan to renew and release new services in several parts. As part of our first project, we will be renovating guest rooms, opening a water mirror terrace in the Japanese-style garden, and installing hot spring turrets and cooling corridors in several guest rooms. These renewals were carried out under the supervision of designer Naofumi Aoyama. Additionally, the installation of the hot spring turret and hot water cooling corridor also serves as a commemoration of Atagawa Onsen’s hot spring guardian culture being registered as a UNESCO Global Geopark Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2023.

* ■110th anniversary renewal information*
Renewal 1.: “1st floor Japanese and Western special room Kasuga” renewal Renewal 2.: Mikagami Terrace Renewal
Renewal 3.: Hot spring turret and hot water cooling corridor installed in 6 rooms on the second floor
* ■* [Japanese-Western special room Kasuga on the 1st floor] Japanese-style garden view, Itsuki terrace, footbath, indoor bath Itsuki Terrace is about 25 square meters, with a footbath and swing chairs arranged around trees with autumn leaves.
We have renovated the rooms that previously had hot spring footbaths and terraces. In order to make the autumn leaves of the Japanese-style garden part of the guest room, we have extended the deck terrace and installed a footbath and interior decoration there. The guest rooms embody the hotel’s concept of “not just looking at nature, but immersing yourself in it.” In addition to the traditional ways of enjoying yourself, you can now enjoy new experiences such as footbaths fed by natural hot springs and admiring Japanese-style gardens. On the approximately 25 square meter deck terrace called Itsuki Terrace, you can enjoy a picnic-like experience by sitting directly under the trees and watching the sunlight filter through the foliage. For fun, we also installed swing chairs. The new interior is in harmony with the garden and guest rooms, making your stay on the deck terrace more diverse.

* ■Mikagami terrace and water basin*
Mikagami Terrace where the greenery of the garden is reflected on the water surface of the basin.
A water basin has been installed on the lounge terrace and it has been renovated as the Mikagami Terrace. Not only does it serve as the entrance to the Japanese-style garden “Hagoromo,” but you can now also see the reflection of the garden reflected in the water basin. We named it Mikagami Terrace because the water looks like a mirror. The water surface of the black-painted basin terrace reflects fresh greenery and hydrangeas from April to June, wind chimes in August, and autumn leaves in November. At night, the trees and terrace are illuminated.
At night, when the garden is less green, it will be lit up with bamboo beads and bamboo lights. Additionally, in the center of the water basin on the Mizugami Terrace, we have placed the roots of a cypress tree that is 200 to 300 years old. This is the root of a tree that was cut down during the renovation of Jisho-in, a temple in this area.

* ■Hot spring turret (turret) and hot water cooling corridor* Hot spring turret and hot water cooling corridor installed in the guest room bath
In 2023, Atagawa Onsen’s hot water protection culture was registered as an intangible cultural heritage of the Global Geopark. To commemorate our hotel’s 110th anniversary and geosite registration, we have installed hot spring turrets and cooling corridors in the guest room baths of the three guest room types. A hot spring turret is a building used to manage Atagawa’s hot springs, which have a high temperature of approximately 100 degrees and are prone to forming hot springs. The actual pipes are 20m high and 400m underground, but the sizes this time are 50cm to 100cm. Through trial and error, the hotel’s hot spring guardian designed the hot spring bath through trial and error, using the drop and the corridor attached to the hot spring turret to gradually cool down the temperature of the hot spring. This has made it possible to provide higher quality natural hot spring water.

* ■About Nara-no-Sato Tamsui*
“Nara-no-Sato”
Tamasui is a 13-room hot spring inn located on the Oku-Atsu River, far from the hot springs of Izu Atagawa Onsen. We have two gardens, a Japanese-style garden and a bamboo forest garden, and the concept is that you can not only admire nature, but also relax by immersing yourself in it. In addition, the abundant amount of hot water gushing out from the private hot spring source allows all guest rooms and large communal baths to have hot water flowing directly from the hot spring source.
