■Project background
The company announced a new medium-term management plan in March 2023. In order to achieve our goals, it is essential to promote group management.
It was necessary for the entire group to unite through the group’s corporate philosophy of “life.”

life.” is a clear statement of the group’s purpose and reason for existence: “Bringing richer lives to people around the world through the transportation of goods and value.” Although employees were aware of the words themselves, we were concerned that the thoughts behind them were not fully understood, and that as time progressed, the ideas that had been cherished since the company’s founding were fading. Therefore, the company established a task force team to strengthen the penetration of the group’s corporate philosophy in order to achieve the goals of the new medium-term management plan. Our company previously produced a video to instill the “values” that all employees should have in common in order to realize the company’s corporate philosophy. Because of this connection, we have decided to provide video production support to help spread the group’s corporate philosophy.

The aim was to promote recognition and understanding of “value to life.” We extracted the thoughts that are relevant to the present day from the history of founder Yataro Iwasaki and NYK Line, and considered a video composition that can be understood by linking the past and present. We proceeded with the project by considering a method of expression that would be easy for all employees in Japan and overseas to understand.
The penetration video starts with an appeal to the necessity of a philosophy, “Why do we need a philosophy now?” and an introduction to the history of Nippon Kaiun, which is connected to the company’s history, and Mr. Yataro Iwasaki’s autobiography. The company’s predecessor, Mitsubishi Mail Steamship Co., Ltd., was founded during the turbulent times that determined the fate of Nippon Shipping, and the company’s turbulent modern times are linked to the need for a philosophy to unite the entire group.
