◼️Story

* “What kind of garden is there in the moon palace where Princess Kaguya returned?” *

The theme is the garden of the Moon Capital where Princess Kaguya returned.

“In the past, there was a man called Taketori no Otsuna.”
Japan’s oldest story, “Tori Monogatari,” begins with this famous phrase, and the story begins with an old man finding a little girl from a shining tree in a forest.

The child was named “Kaguya Hime” and grew up to be a very beautiful princess. Although she is admired by many suitors and the emperor, she ends up returning to the moon.

The capital of the moon where Princess Kaguya left everything behind. It seems like a bright, wonderful world that everyone dreams of. What kind of garden did the palace have?

The world after the mysterious story that has been passed down for more than 1,000 years is expressed with overwhelming light.

◼️ Organizer’s message

・Make bamboo lighting a new part of Japanese culture
It has been 20 years since I met Akari Take in 2004 while I was a student at Sojo University. This exhibition “Kaguyahime’s Glowing Garden in
“Sakura Machi Kumamoto” is CHIKAKEN’s new challenge towards a new era of bamboo lighting.
With the mission of “making bamboo light a new part of Japanese culture,” we have expanded our activities from Kumamoto to all over the country and around the world, and were even able to appear on Jonetsu Tairiku last year. However, as I worked on the production and decorations in various places, I came to have a strong feeling. I would like to create works that pursue the potential of bamboo lights as entertainment, rather than just a method of staging or decoration! about it. This exhibition is the first exhibition sponsored by CHIKAKEN, which has poured all of its current power into taking on the challenge of exploring new possibilities for bamboo lighting. This challenge includes:
・“Light of gratitude” to everyone in Kumamoto who helped raise CHIKAKEN ・“Light of determination” to the new world of CHIKAKEN bamboo light that is about to begin
This is our idea.
We will disseminate Takeakari as new entertainment content in Japan from Kumamoto, the place that nurtured CHIKAKEN, to the world. * CHIKAKEN Representative Kenji Miki*
・To commemorate the 20th anniversary of CHIKAKEN bamboo light and the 5th anniversary of the opening of Sakuramachi Kumamoto
We are really happy to be able to hold “Kaguyahime’s Shining Garden” together with Sakura Machi Kumamoto in this milestone year of 5 years since its opening. Together with CHIKAKEN, we will deliver
Kumamoto-style hospitality and unique charm to people from both Japan and abroad. Please enjoy the collaboration between the view of Kumamoto Castle from the rooftop of Sakuramachi Kumamoto and the evolved bamboo light entertainment.

◼️What is the bamboo light production group CHIKAKEN?

A unit centered on Chika Ikeda and Ken Miki, who met in 2004 while they were students at Sojo University (Kumamoto). In April 2007, we established CHIKAKEN, a group that produces and produces “Bamboo Akari,” which are lights made by drilling holes in bamboo, based on the “Festival-style town development” advocated by Keiichi Uchimaru, who I studied with. Established on May. Based in Kumamoto, he lights bamboo lights all over the country and continues to create
“landscapes” and “stories” that are unique to each region. We aim to ensure that “bamboo light”, which connects “people to people, people to cities, and people to nature,” is not consumed as a temporary “business,” but is passed down as a new Japanese “culture.” .

In addition to working with local communities to create festivals all over the country,
We are expanding the charm of bamboo light to the world by staging it at China’s first bamboo light festival, “Opening Bamboo Festival” (2019), Brazil (2020), Taiwan (2020), and France (2023). There is. At the G7 Summit held in Japan, “bamboo light” was exhibited as a new Japanese culture at the Ise-Shima (2016) spouse program dinner venue and the Hiroshima (2023) government public relations exhibition area. Appearing on “Jonetsu Tairiku” broadcast on November 5, 2023.

◼️What is “Bamboo Akari”?

They are made by making holes or cuts in bamboo and putting candles or LEDs inside to light them. It is also called bamboo lantern or bamboo art. “Usuki Takeyo” is held in Usuki City, Oita Prefecture, which started in 1997.
It is said to be the origin of lanterns made of bamboo, and is said to be the pioneer of the bamboo light festivals held all over the country. Since anyone can easily make it, it can now be seen all over the country. Furthermore, directors who create sophisticated works have appeared, and it is becoming established as a new form of Japanese beauty. Moso bamboo is mainly used, but in recent years artificial resin bamboo has also been made.
Kumamoto City’s “Kumamoto Living Festival Mizuakari” is surrounded by bamboo lights.
