School refusal alternative school “NIJIN Academy” expands real classrooms nationwide
*Aiming to open 1,000 classrooms nationwide as an alternative education option to schools*
NIJIN Academy, an alternative school for school refusal operated by NIJIN Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Tatsuro Hoshino), is pleased to announce that it will open real classrooms in 1,000 classrooms nationwide.
NIJIN Academy, which was featured on NHK Good Morning Japan as a virtual school that utilizes the Metaverse, has enrolled approximately 200 elementary and junior high school students so far, and has achieved a school satisfaction rate of 91.4%, homeroom class satisfaction rate of 96%, and attendance certification. With a rate of 98%, over 40 children have returned to school, and we have contributed to the enriched growth of children by working closely with schools and boards of education.
In the future, in addition to the Metaverse, in response to the needs of children who do not want to go back to school but want to learn in a real place, we will create an offline learning place based on a curriculum and educational method different from that of schools. We will expand “Real Classroom” nationwide.
The Real Classroom will be open two days a week, and openings have already been scheduled in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Koshigaya City, Saitama Prefecture, Sayama City, Saitama Prefecture, and Suwa City, Nagano Prefecture. From now on, we will move forward with preparations to open schools in various locations with the goal of opening 1,000 classrooms nationwide.
Children who arrive at school at 10 a.m. can connect with classrooms and the Metaverse all over the country, get their bodies moving through “home physical education,” and enjoy free-paced learning, lunchtime, online classes, and club activities and clubs with friends from all over the country. We envision learning that can only be found in real classrooms, such as inquiry-based learning in collaboration with local shopping districts and nature learning at local parks.
NIJIN Academy will develop rich educational activities by adding local teaching materials to the educational methods and curriculum established in the Metaverse.
This allows children to spend half the week learning in the Metaverse and half the week in the real classroom. Even children who have difficulty living in a group at school due to developmental
disabilities or other characteristics can grow in a way of learning and spending time that suits them.
