example)
・Which skin type is closest to yours?
・Have you ever experienced rough skin or skin problems when using liquid foundation in the past?
Regarding the skin type of the respondents
First, we will introduce the skin type of the respondents. Japanese skin types can be roughly divided into the following four types. I asked them which of these applies to them.
– Combination skin (low moisture/high sebum)
– Dry skin (low moisture/low sebum)
– Normal skin (high moisture content/low sebum content)
– Oily skin (high water content/high sebum content)
Source: Granza Beauty
Combination skin (low moisture/high sebum): approx. 48%
Dry skin (low moisture/low sebum): approx. 31%
Normal skin (high water content/low sebum content): approx. 15% Oily skin (high water content/high sebum content): approx. 6% This time, the most common skin type was combination skin (low moisture content/high sebum content).
Liquid foundation and skin problems
Next, I asked them if they had any skin problems when using liquid foundation.
Source: Granza Beauty
Have experienced skin problems: Approximately 23%
No experience of skin problems: Approximately 77%
Approximately 77% of respondents said they had never experienced skin problems, while approximately 23% said they had. This means that using a liquid foundation that doesn’t suit your skin can cause skin problems.
What are the points of view when choosing a liquid foundation? Here we will introduce what skin concerns the respondents have and what criteria they use to choose liquid foundation.
What are the respondents’ current skin concerns?
We posed the following questions to respondents.
“Please choose the one that most closely matches your skin concerns and concerns.”
Source: Granza Beauty
– Spots/freckles: approx. 39%
– Pores and skin irregularities: approx. 24%
– Dry: approx. 21%
– Fine wrinkles: about 6%
– Rough skin: about 5%
– Shiny/glossy skin: Approx. 3%
– Skin redness: approx. 2%
The most common was “spots/freckles” at approximately 39%. Next, uneven pores account for about 24%, and dryness accounts for about 21%, with these three accounting for over 80% of the total.
What criteria do you use when choosing a liquid foundation?
So, what criteria do you actually use to choose a liquid foundation?
Source: Granza Beauty
– Good finish: approx. 37%
– Resistance to collapse: approx. 35%
– Moisturizing ingredient: approx. 13%
– Ease of application: approx. 8%
– Good value for money: about 4%
– Sunscreen ingredient: approx. 3%
The most common response was “good finish” at approximately 37%. Next, the expected effect of liquid foundation, which is about 35% “resistance to smearing,” clearly shows that it “keeps the skin looking beautiful.”
On the other hand, the following “moisturizing ingredients” and “sunscreen ingredients” have additional effects. When actually choosing a product, this extra factor is likely to be a point of contention.

Since this is a foundation that you use every day, the lightness and blending of the finish are essential points. I’m also very happy that it gives a natural look while also being able to cover up any concerns.

– I thought it would be better if it blended into the skin rather than falling apart over time (woman in her 20s)
– I found it attractive that it gave the skin a thin veil-like finish (female in her 40s)
– I think it’s great that it doesn’t clog your pores. (Female in her 40s) – I was interested in the fact that it gives a finish that looks like bare skin and gives a glow using three oils (Female in her 50s) – It looks like it has great pore coverage, but it doesn’t feel like you’ve applied it, which is ideal (female in her 30s)

A foundation that protects against sunburn and shine, and is difficult to remove even with water or sweat. It’s a color that would suit me, who is concerned about redness in my skin.

– Because it’s reasonable and easy to try (Female in her 40s) – Creates a natural finish (female in her 30s)

View details While there is a strong interest in covering power and resistance to fading, it seems that the deciding factor when choosing a product is also focusing on the extra effects. The moisturizing and serum formulations seem to be particularly popular. There were also many comments regarding the brand power, which probably reflects the desire to use the product with confidence because it is something that is used on a daily basis.
summary
Regarding skin concerns, more than 80% of the respondents had age spots, freckles, uneven pores, and dryness. On the other hand, regarding the points to consider when choosing a liquid foundation, over 70% of respondents said that the quality of the finish and the fact that it does not come off easily.
However, when asked to choose a product they would like to try, more comments were made about other benefits than the good finish or the fact that it doesn’t fall apart, with moisturizing, beauty essence, and medicinal properties attracting the most attention from readers. When it comes to liquid foundations, the basic efficacy of coverage and durability is taken for granted, but what can be done with extra benefits seems to be an important point of discussion.
