At Yasuko Ueda Fashion College, students designed a practical garment bag in a trial program. Emphasizing social significance, challenging for the Good Design Award.
*Project overview and purpose:*
Yasuko Ueda Fashion College has become essential in the recent market trends. In order to acquire design technology that can also be applied to the “D2C” area,
We have started a new design program as a trial operation.
In this program, students design based on their own experiences, We will perform practical work to solve everyday problems.
For the first time, we worked on designing a garment bag that pursued practicality, with an emphasis on social significance.
After taking on the challenge of winning the Good Design Award and using it for testing within the school, we will create a special site on our school website.
We are considering selling at a “limited time online store”.
*Specific initiatives:*
Students who carry their works and patterns in their daily classes carry many bags from home to school classes.
Every time I took out a work, I used my breaks to remove the wrinkles. Students can tackle the task, reduce the burden of transporting their work, and travel without having to carry multiple bags.
I designed a garment bag.

1. * Selection of materials: * Utilizing leftover vinyl, packaging materials, etc. on campus as upcycle.
The outer material is made of recycled nylon.
Over 90% made of sustainable materials.
2. * Design process: * We will demonstrate the unique creativity that only a fashion school can offer and solve the problem of wrinkles during transportation.
It is designed with two tubes installed inside and wrapped with fabric to prevent wrinkles and bunching.
In addition, it is characterized by its colorful color scheme, which is different from other bags in general circulation.
3. * In-school test: * Students actually use the bag and improve each part based on user test information.
This garment bag is made with sustainable materials and design. It is a product that combines functionality and the inherent fun of fashion.

*Specific episode:*
This garment bag was created based on the problems that we, the students of the fashion school, felt during our daily classes and commuting to school.
The design was based on real opinions such as “I wish I had a bag like this.” By making it possible to store a large amount of luggage, such as clothing materials, drafting tools, and patterns, all in one, I committed to solving problems for fashion students.
In addition to the ease of use,
With added value such as “a sense of fun and play, and originality that can be used to your own specifications,”
I think we were able to approach the new needs of the fashion bag market. We also keep SDGs in mind when choosing materials, and use materials around us. I was able to learn about sustainable manufacturing.

* The importance of sustainability and upcycling:*
We utilize recycled materials and leftover materials on campus in our programs, and commercialize sustainable products as a practical matter.
In this way, we place emphasis on making students aware of new design work that combines design and functionality.
By accepting sustainability as a fashion standard before students enter the workforce,
When involved in business in the real world, you can get off to a smooth start as the next generation of fashion businesspeople.
* Future plans and expected results of the project:*
After an in-school test, we are considering selling this garment bag on Yasuko Ueda Fashion College’s e-commerce site.
After verifying this initiative, we will reflect it in next year’s program.
Free and original creativity that is not bound by various constraints in the real world,
Fashion products with a practical consumer perspective,
It is expected that it will be supported by many users in the future.
