AOMORI GOKAN Art Festival is being held until September 1st (Sunday) at Aomori International Art Center, Hirosaki Brick Warehouse Museum, Hachinohe City Museum of Art, Towada City Museum of Contemporary Art) In 2024 “Tsuranari no Harappa,” Takashi Kuribayashi’s Genki Furnace, a joint project of five museums touring each museum, started at the Aomori Museum of Art on Friday, August 9th.

Kuribayashi has created works that look at the “boundaries” that exist in all times and places, such as the boundaries between inside and outside space, between nature and humans, and between humans, and reconsider their meaning. Genki Reactor is an experiential work in which the audience can step inside a structure shaped like a nuclear reactor that generates steam with the scent of medicinal herbs. At the opening day, Takashi Kuribayashi said in front of the work, “This is a work that I have been working on since 2020.After the Great East Japan Earthquake, I was traveling to Fukushima, looking for what I could do as an artist, and I noticed that the local people were giving me energy. Inspired by our experience in Thailand, we presented a nuclear reactor-shaped work called a herbal steam sauna to energize everyone, 10 years after the earthquake.At first, the work did not have a name, but participants who experienced it. The name came about because of the “Genki Furnace” that generates energy from everyone’s energy.The Towada Museum of Contemporary Art has a deep connection to Aomori.
We are looking forward to showing our works at five of Aomori’s leading museums. Musician Sho Tatsuda and photographer and video maker Rai Shizuno, who are part of the caravan with us on a regular basis, will also be joining us to create works that will allow you to enjoy the entire space with your six senses, which go beyond your five senses. At this art festival, the museums that display the works use a blend of medicinal herbs that grow wild in each region. Those who
experienced the mist-like steam scented with herbs such as lemongrass and mulberry leaves were all smiling and enjoyed the herbal tea after the experience.
Also, at this art festival, “Aomori GENKI-RO
Titled “Trip,” local musicians and musician Sho Tatsuda will perform live, ranging from local music from various regions of Aomori to jazz and classical music. At the Aomori Museum of Art, musicians from the Aomori Prefectural Nebuta Executive Committee participated. In addition, photographer and videographer Rai Shizuno will be
accompanying the event to record the event. On the day of the event, there will be drink and food stalls at each venue, so artists and participants alike can enjoy the event.
“Genkiro” will travel to five museums in Aomori, embodying the 2024 theme of “Tsuranari no Harappa”, and will be held at this art festival while interacting with the traditional culture inherited from each region and the people. Decorate the finale.

The Hachinohe City Museum of Art is the only one of the five museums to exhibit this work indoors. You can enjoy the works along with music and videos summarizing the exhibits at each museum. Also, at the event on Sunday, August 18th, in addition to viewing the works, you will be able to enjoy live music performed in collaboration with local performing arts. It’s a lively night both inside and outside the museum, with food and beverage stalls set up both inside and outside the museum, and video screenings at Maeniwa.

At the same time, the cafe cube attached to the museum has extended its business hours and sells soft drinks, alcohol, and goods related to Mr. Kuribayashi. Around the “Genkiro”, the work “YATAI”, which is a wooden stall table mounted on a wheelbarrow, will be exhibited, and drinks will be served while surrounding “YATAI”.

Born in Osaka in 1992. Completed master’s program at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies. Specializes in media theory and sound studies.
Based on a socio-historical interest in sound technologies such as synthesizers and recording media, he creates musical works centered on electronic sounds. In recent years, Takuma Matsunaga and ACE In addition to collaborating with many musicians including COOL, he also handles a wide range of activities, including providing and producing music, composing look movies for fashion brands, film music, and stage music.
