Logistics is a social infrastructure that supports the economy and people’s lives, but truck drivers, who play a key role, have long working hours and low incomes, and there is a significant labor shortage. Under these circumstances, regulations on overtime work for drivers will be introduced in April of this year, and there are concerns that logistics will become stagnant due to further labor shortages.
Some estimates suggest a shortfall of 14% this year and 34% in 2030. In response to this “Logistics 2024 Problem,” the government compiled the “Policy Package for Logistics Innovation” in June last year, and the government worked as one to review business practices, with cooperation from industry and the public.
