Announcement of study time ranking by prefecture | 3rd place: Saitama, 2nd place: Tokyo
*Tendency for urban areas to be prominently confirmed*
Bondavi Co., Ltd. has aggregated independent study time by prefecture based on data from the intensive app “Intensive”.
The results confirmed an overall trend that students spend more time studying in urban areas.
This may be due to the strong competition in entrance exams in urban areas. Additionally, the prefecture with the most study time was found in Yamaguchi Prefecture, which does not match the overall trend, but the reason for this is currently unknown.
*Aggregation method*
*Aggregated by prefecture based on behavioral data from the
concentration app “Concentration”*.
According to a separate survey, *More than 90% of “Concentration” users use it for learning*
(72.4% of students and 18.8% of working adults) are known to be using apps, and the above data reflects (particularly students’) study time. In addition, this app is mostly used to improve concentration and motivation for *independent study*, and does not include studying at school, and is basically used by both students and working adults*. Independent study time* has been aggregated.
Number of samples: 76,628
Collection period: April 1, 2024 ~ July 31, 2024
People in cities tend to spend more time studying
Yamaguchi Prefecture, which came in first place, was an exceptional result, but the overall trend was that prefectures with high population density (≒ urban areas) tended to spend more time studying. When prefectures were arranged in order of population density, it was confirmed that prefectures with higher population density tended to take longer to study.
(In the figure below, long learning times are shown in green, and short learning times are shown in red.)
This trend is also confirmed when comparing the top 5 and worst 5 prefectures in terms of population density.
As expected, there are many cities. Is this a sign of a competitive society? Regarding the point that “people in urban areas have more time for independent study”, the results were as expected.
In urban areas, the culture of taking entrance exams starts from a young age, and there seems to be a strong tendency for competition to motivate students to study.
Such a competitive society may be a factor behind the above data.
For some reason, Yamaguchi Prefecture has an unusually large number of them. However, Yamaguchi Prefecture, where most of the study time was spent, does not have a high population density, so this alone cannot explain the results.
At present, no sufficiently persuasive theory has been found. We will publish the data, so if anyone is interested in the reasons why, we would appreciate it if you could consider it.
