“Sewerage Day” began as “National Sewerage Promotion Day” in 1961 (Showa 36) through discussions between the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, etc., in order to promote the nationwide use of sewage systems, which had been significantly delayed. Ta. Later, in 2001 (Heisei 13), which marked the 100th anniversary of the enactment of the old Sewerage Law, the name was changed to “Sewerage Day” to make it more familiar.
“Sewerage Day” was designated as September 10th, keeping in mind that one of the major roles of sewerage systems is to remove rainwater. This is because it was deemed appropriate.
