This course is held with the cooperation of nursing care businesses in various regions so that students can receive practical foot care training without spending time and money. In today’s super-aging society, many elderly people find it difficult to wash their toes or cut their toenails due to age-related declines in vision and grip strength, as well as inability to reach. Additionally, as the number of single-person households increases, the number of elderly people who do not have family members who can ask them to cut their toenails is also increasing.
Our mission is to contribute to a cohesive local society by training foot care specialists across the country to support these people. Practical training courses have previously been held in Sendai, Gunma, Fukushima, and Kumamoto, but it has now been decided that they will be held for the first time in Tokyo.

In 2018, we started offering foot care services such as on-site toenail trimming in Miyagi Prefecture in order to create an
environment in various places where people who have difficulty going out on their own can receive thorough foot care. It took about 2 hours each way to visit the mountainous and coastal areas of Miyagi Prefecture. A foot care salon will also open in a community space in Sendai City in 2021. I have many years of experience working directly with the elderly in special nursing homes as a care worker and care support specialist, and I will be able to convey more practical content about foot care for the elderly, including examples. Toenails that do not have a medical condition cannot be cut at a hospital. There are also elderly people living alone who live in areas where it takes more than two hours each way to get to a place that will cut their toenails or treat the calluses on their toes. Not everyone can go there alone. There are probably elderly people all over the country who live in this kind of environment.
Additionally, it appears that many people who hold nursing care worker or nursing qualifications graduate without having the opportunity to learn how to cut toenails in detail during their student days. Therefore, it is no wonder that caregivers and nurses working at elderly care facilities, day care services, hospitals, etc. are having trouble providing foot care such as cutting toenails as expected. We want to create opportunities for caregivers and nurses who have many opportunities to interact with the elderly to improve their skills, and in addition, we want to increase the number of people involved in elderly care through foot care, so we are holding courses all over the country. By doing so, we would like to contribute to a cohesive local society by creating an environment that makes it easier to attend classes and training human resources who can provide foot care in each region.
