I often hear people say “I want to watch Korean dramas without subtitles” as an opportunity, motivation, or goal for learning Korean. By setting goals in areas that are familiar to you and that you are deeply interested in, you can continue learning Korean in a fun way, so many teachers at Cafetalk also offer lessons that incorporate Korean dramas.

I was curious about the question, “What kind of Korean dramas do people watch?”, so I asked everyone who regularly learns Korean on Cafetalk to complete a survey.
We asked them to tell us about their favorite Korean dramas (movies)* and the recommended Korean dramas (movies) from the perspective of Korean language learners*.

We hope that this information will be useful to both Korean language learners and teachers who teach Korean.

As a reason,

“Korean dramas are excellent in medical dramas, suspense dramas, and corporate dramas, but the words used are difficult, so if you want to train your ears without relying too much on subtitles, I recommend Dokkaebi, where the characters speak slowly and clearly, making it easier to understand.
Above all, when I first saw it, I was shocked by not only the romance but also the view of life and death and the unique world view that underpins the drama. Highly recommended for those who are new to Korean dramas. ”

“Every time I watched it again and again, I got sucked into the drama. Words from the drama that immediately come to mind include “Ajoshi” and “Samcheon.” I learned everything from everyday words to the flow of conversation through this drama! ”

“I think it’s difficult to use as a learning material for listening comprehension. However, it has a certain charm that attracts people, so maybe I can overcome the difficulty?”

There was an opinion.

Also, regarding 3rd place: *Wise doctor’s life*,

“You’ll learn how to have all kinds of conversations, such as everyday conversations with friends, how to use honorific language between seniors and juniors, how doctors and patients use language, and conversations between parents and children. You’ll also come across medical terminology, so it’s difficult but worth learning. I think it’s a drama.”

“You’ll learn some phrases you don’t often use, and you’ll also learn honorific words.”

“I feel like buzzwords come up a lot.
Also, the music is good. The song is a nostalgic song that is familiar to many people in Korea, and is performed by the band that the main characters form, and the OST is covered by young singers and idol groups. When a song like that is played on another drama or TV program, I’m happy because I think, “Oh, that’s that song.” Of course, you can also learn by checking and memorizing the lyrics of songs. ”

4th place: *What’s wrong with Secretary Kim? * For

“A variety of expressions are used, including formal honorifics, honorifics, and formal expressions.”

“I think I can learn both proper honorific language as a secretary and polite speech in private.”

Many people cited the fact that they can learn from dramas about casual expressions, which can be said to be unique to Korean, as well as the combination and proper use of honorific language used for superiors.

That year, we learned *), “I learned hotel terminology and Korean etiquette” (*Hotelier*), and “There were a lot of advanced idioms and four-letter idioms in the lines” (*

), which were selected as having many expressions that learners can actually use in their own environments, may also be helpful to other Korean learners.
